Responsible Jewellery Council Appoints Melanie Grant as Executive Director

The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), which is regarded as the leading organization in establishing sustainability standards for the UK jewellery and watch industry, has recently named Melanie Grant as its new executive director. Grant, who boasts over two decades of experience in the industry, is highly esteemed for her expertise as a thinker, writer, and curator. She has been associated with some of the most influential outlets in the watch and jewellery industry and possesses extensive experience in commissioning and editing luxury content. Apart from her professional achievements, Grant also possesses significant leadership skills that will be invaluable in her new position.

Grant’s illustrious career as a journalist includes working for renowned publications such as The Times, The Financial Times, The Independent, The Guardian, the BBC, and most recently, The Economist, where she served as the luxury editor of 1843 Magazine until 2022.

The RJC has stated that Grant has been on a mission for the past ten years to break down the barriers between different art forms and elevate jewellery to the status of fine art. Her passion for the industry combined with her creative skillset make her a perfect fit for the position of executive director. David Bouffard, Chairman of RJC, has expressed his confidence in Grant, highlighting her deep knowledge and love for jewellery and watches, as well as her unique creative abilities that appeal to both industry insiders and consumers. Bouffard believes that Grant will lead RJC into a new era, furthering their mission of enhancing the integrity of the global jewellery and watch supply chain.

Grant herself acknowledges the significance of sustainability in the industry today. She draws parallels between sustainability and the digital transformation that occurred two decades ago. Grant argues that those who embraced digital transformation reaped the rewards by attracting new, younger clients. Conversely, those who disregarded it fell behind. Grant views sustainability as the most crucial issue facing the watch and jewellery industry today. Her goal is to educate and inspire everyone involved in the industry to recognize their role in driving the sustainability movement.

With the appointment of Melanie Grant as the new executive director, RJC is set to make significant strides in promoting responsible practices within the jewellery and watch industry. Grant’s experience, leadership skills, and dedication to sustainability make her the ideal candidate for this critical role. As she takes the helm, industry professionals and consumers can anticipate positive changes and advancements in the sector.
