Reopening of La Samaritaine Delayed Due to Health Crisis

After 15 years of tireless work and a massive investment of 750 million euros, the long-awaited reopening of the iconic department store La Samaritaine has been put on hold due to the current health crisis. The construction had reached its final stages and the grand reopening was scheduled for April, but unfortunately, the pandemic forced a halt in the construction process. The luxurious brand LVMH, which owns La Samaritaine, is now patiently waiting for the completion of what they call Samaritaine 2.0.

According to an LVMH official, the construction work has recently resumed after the necessary adjustments were made to ensure the safety of the workers. However, a specific opening date has not yet been announced, and LVMH is now aiming for a summer launch. The ongoing pandemic has also presented a new challenge for the group, as they must now adapt the layout of the department store to comply with social distancing guidelines. This involves expanding the walkways and making necessary changes to ensure the safety and well-being of customers and staff.

The building itself is of great historical significance, with parts of it classified as a Historical Monument. The revitalized La Samaritaine will offer a high-end shopping experience on the prestigious rue de Rivoli. Managed by DFS, renowned for its luxurious offerings, the shopping center will house an impressive selection of 600 brands, spanning fashion, lifestyle, and gastronomy. Additionally, the complex will feature a luxurious hotel called Cheval Blanc. With 72 rooms and suites overlooking the beautiful Seine, it promises to be an exquisite accommodation option for visitors.

The project doesn’t stop there. The revitalized La Samaritaine will also include 15,000 square meters of office space, a nursery with 80 beds, and 97 social housing units managed by France Habitat. This comprehensive approach highlights LVMH’s commitment to not only creating a luxury shopping destination but also contributing positively to the community and providing various amenities and services.

As we eagerly anticipate the grand reopening of La Samaritaine, it is important to note the immense effort and investment that has gone into transforming this historical space into a modern retail and hospitality landmark. Stay tuned for more updates on the progress and official opening date of Samaritaine 2.0.
