Pyer Moss Makes Triumphant Return at New York Fashion Week

Pyer Moss made a triumphant return to the New York Fashion Week stage with a breathtaking showcase of style and substance that left the audience in awe. The Spring-Summer 2020 collection, masterfully presented by innovative American designer Kerby Jean-Raymond, was the final installment in a trilogy celebrating Afro-American heritage.

Titled “Sister” as a tribute to the legendary singer Rosetta Tharpe, the show took place at the iconic Kings Theater in Brooklyn, attracting a full house of over 3,000 guests. The atmosphere was electrifying, with a choir of more than 60 voices and a live orchestra filling the air with the rich, soulful sounds of Afro-American music, ranging from gospel to rap.

One of the most noteworthy features of the show was the diverse cast of models, exclusively comprised of black and mixed-race individuals. Jean-Raymond expertly fused elements from various time periods to create a collection that exalted the beauty of Afro-American culture. Traditional menswear silhouettes were reimagined with a feminine twist, while the women’s line showcased elaborate details and sumptuous silk fabrics.

In a candid post-show interview, Jean-Raymond shared his vision of establishing an aesthetic dedicated to black rock, a genre he believes has been underrepresented in mainstream fashion. Despite his success in showcasing Afro-American culture in previous collections, he expressed his desire to explore new themes and concepts in his forthcoming designs.

At the youthful age of 32, Kerby Jean-Raymond’s exceptional talent has garnered attention, leading to a recent collaboration with sports brand Reebok. While his avant-garde approach may not always conform to conventional trends, he remains resolute in his mission to infuse fashion with profound meaning and cultural significance.

Pyer Moss has undeniably left an indelible mark on the Fashion Week circuit, consistently delivering collections that seamlessly blend artistic ingenuity, cultural appreciation, and social awareness. The industry eagerly anticipates the next chapter in the Pyer Moss saga.
