PVH Announces Groundbreaking Initiative to Decrease Greenhouse Gas Emissions

PVH, the parent company of widely recognized fashion brands like Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, has recently announced a groundbreaking initiative to significantly decrease greenhouse gas emissions. The company’s ambitious new targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions have been officially endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative, a coalition of leading organizations including CDP, WRI, WWF, and UNGC.

These approved targets set forth by PVH include the goal of transitioning all offices, warehouses, and stores to be powered entirely by renewable electricity by the year 2030. This monumental shift is projected to result in a remarkable 71% reduction in emissions for the company’s Scope 1 and 2 GHG footprints. Moreover, PVH is striving for a 30% reduction in global supply chain emissions (Scope 3) by the same deadline.

This announcement is a pivotal component of PVH’s overarching ‘Forward Fashion’ strategy, which was introduced earlier this year. This strategy aims to align with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, specifically the target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees celsius. Key milestones of the ‘Forward Fashion’ strategy include achieving zero waste, zero carbon emissions, and zero hazardous chemicals in operations, as well as the production of circular products.

Emanuel Chirico, Chairman and CEO of PVH, underscored the significance of these targets in the fight against climate change. He emphasized, “This validation of our Science Based Targets reflects the science- and data-based underpinnings of PVH’s Forward Fashion strategy and our goal of driving fashion forward – for good.”

In order to meet these ambitious goals, PVH has been actively working with its energy-intensive facilities throughout the supply chain, developing environmentally-friendly products, promoting energy efficiency practices, and collaborating with suppliers to transition to renewable energy sources. Additionally, PVH is backing global initiatives such as the United Nations Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action.

PVH’s resolute commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions exemplifies the company’s dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship within the fashion industry. This proactive stance sets a positive precedent for other corporations to emulate in the battle against climate change.
