Pure London Introduces The Independent Fashion Retailer Sustainability Toolkit

Pure London, the well-known trade show for the fashion industry, is introducing a new initiative called The Independent Fashion Retailer Sustainability Toolkit at its upcoming event from 12-14 February at Olympia London. This toolkit aims to support independent fashion retailers in the UK by providing them with a comprehensive resource to implement sustainability practices.

In the UK, there are approximately 14,000 independent fashion retailers, and the Sustainability Toolkit has been specifically designed to cater to their needs. It covers important aspects of sustainability such as reducing carbon footprint, energy consumption, and sustainable packaging.

The toolkit consists of five chapters that are both comprehensive and user-friendly. These chapters cover topics like mapping the environmental impact of a business, creating a sustainability strategy, operating stores in an eco-conscious manner, mindful sourcing, embracing circularity, and effective communication with customers.

To provide practical examples, the toolkit features case studies of two independent retailers who have successfully embraced sustainability. These case studies showcase the experiences and benefits gained by Trad Collective in Leeds and Sancho’s in Exeter, the winner of the High Street Shop of the Year award.

Alongside the case studies, the toolkit also includes Fashion Lectures videos. These videos, presented by Olivia Pinnock, the show’s Sustainability Advisor, cover important sustainability topics like the Climate Crisis, Circularity, and Sustainability. They provide valuable insights and advice for retailers looking to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by sustainability in the fashion industry.

Gloria Sandrucci, the Event Director of Pure London, highlights the significance of addressing the environmental impact of the fashion industry. The aim of this initiative is to use the platform provided by Pure London to educate and inform industry professionals about sustainability practices. Sandrucci emphasizes that the Sustainability Toolkit is an essential resource that is offered to fashion businesses free of charge, eliminating the need for costly consultancy fees.

During the Pure London event, visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion on sustainable retail. Hosted by Olivia Pinnock, this discussion titled ‘Heads Together: Succeeding In Sustainable Retail’ will take place on Monday, February 13 at 3.30 pm. The panel will feature three sustainability advocates: Annick Ireland, the founder of Immaculate Vegan; Josefin Wanner, a Fashion Designer and co-founder of Tråd Collective, and Kalkidan Legesse, the CEO of Owni.

The launch of The Independent Fashion Retailer Sustainability Toolkit at the Pure London event marks a significant step forward in the fashion industry’s efforts to embrace sustainability. By providing retailers with the necessary resources and guidance, Pure London is playing a crucial role in driving positive change and promoting sustainable practices within the industry.
