Puma Named Most Sustainable Fashion Brand

According to a study conducted by Utility Bidder, Puma has been named the most sustainable fashion brand. In a unique approach, the study analyzed online emissions rather than the traditional sustainability factors such as eco-friendly materials and recyclability. Puma emerged as the clear winner with an impressive score of 9.63 out of 10. The brand was commended for its high sustainability rating, transparency, and low CO2 emissions.

The second and third positions were secured by The North Face and Tommy Hilfiger, both of which have strong sustainability plans. The North Face aims to use 100% responsibly sourced materials by 2025, while Tommy Hilfiger targets 100% renewable energy for its stores and distribution centers by 2030. However, their CO2 emissions from website visits were higher compared to Puma.

Coming in fourth place was Calvin Klein, another brand under the PVH umbrella, with a score of 8.15. Interestingly, Calvin Klein had similarly low CO2 emissions from website visits as Puma but scored lower in sustainability and transparency.

The top ten list is completed by Timberland, G-Star Raw, Balenciaga, Burberry (which has made significant improvements since its scandal of burning unsold goods), Converse, and Patagonia, a well-known advocate for sustainability.

This study emphasizes the importance of considering online emissions when evaluating a fashion brand’s sustainability. With the continuous growth of online shopping, brands must not only focus on the environmental impact of their physical products but also the digital footprint they leave behind.

Puma’s recognition as the most sustainable fashion brand serves as a testament to the company’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and promoting transparency. Other brands should take note and strive to incorporate sustainable practices throughout their entire operations, including their online presence. It is crucial to understand that sustainability encompasses every aspect of a brand’s existence and is no longer limited to just the materials used in clothing production.
