Pulp Fashion Week Salon: Celebrating Fashion for Curvy Women

The 4th edition of the highly anticipated Pulp Fashion Week Salon is set to take place in Paris from May 7th to May 8th, 2016. This unique event celebrates and showcases fashion creations specifically designed for curvy women, catering to the rapidly growing market demand.

Known as an international event, the Pulp Fashion Week Salon has been held at the prestigious Paris Stock Exchange for the past four years. It serves as a unifying platform for women who do not conform to the traditional norms set by the fashion industry.

During the two-day event, models ranging from size 40 to size 56 will grace the runways, proudly flaunting their curves. In addition to fashion shows, visitors will have the opportunity to explore fifteen stands featuring various aspects of plus-size fashion, including beauty, well-being, and accessories. It’s an immersive experience that allows attendees to fully appreciate and embrace the art of plus-size fashion.

To select the models for the event, Blanche Kazi, the founder of Pulp Fashion Week, conducts a rigorous casting process each year. She specifically looks for models up to size 56, with a height requirement of at least 1m75 to 1m80. According to Kazi, being a curvy woman does not automatically qualify someone to be a model, just as being thin does not guarantee qualification. This inclusive approach ensures that the beauty and diversity of curvy women are properly represented on the runway.

This year, approximately twenty models were discovered throughout France during the open castings, welcoming both professional and non-professional models. They will showcase the latest collections from well-known plus-size ready-to-wear brands, captivating the audience with their confidence and style.

One of the highlights of Pulp Fashion Week 2016 is the presence of Rosie Mercado as the guest of honor. Rosie gained recognition as one of the most influential models in the industry, thanks to her inspiring weight loss transformation. Her presence at the event will undoubtedly bring even more attention and encouragement to the plus-size fashion movement.

Pulp Fashion Week will also see the participation of a dozen international brands and designers, including MS Mode, Sheego, Yours, Junarose, and Bellma Paris. The event will also feature a competition for the “Young Designer 2016” trophy, with talented designers such as Murielle Kabile, Love Nvoundi, and Sniky Paris vying for the prestigious title. The fashion shows will be orchestrated by Esteban Chaffin, a former contestant from the popular show “Dancing with the Stars”.

Did you know that in France, almost half of the women wear a size 44 or larger? This statistic clearly highlights the need for more representation and inclusivity in the fashion industry, making events like Pulp Fashion Week even more significant.
