Printemps Announces Expansion into U.S. Market with New Store Opening in New York

French luxury department store, Printemps, has announced its plans to expand into the U.S. market with the opening of a new store in New York in spring 2024. The highly anticipated store will be housed in the iconic One Wall Street building in the Financial District, spanning over 54,000 square feet across two levels.

With its prime location and renowned status, Printemps aims to provide a unique and localized shopping experience to its American clientele. The store’s impressive façade, facing Broadway and measuring 346 linear feet, is expected to catch the eye of passersby, further enhancing the brand’s visibility in the bustling city.

A notable feature of the new store will be the preservation and incorporation of the historical interior Red Room, a rare gem among the 50 interior landmarks in New York City. This attention to detail emphasizes Printemps’ commitment to honoring the building’s historical significance and adds to the store’s allure.

To ensure a seamless blend of Parisian and New York aesthetics, Printemps has enlisted the expertise of internationally acclaimed Parisian interior designer, Laura Gonzalez. By infusing the brand’s heritage into the new location’s design, Printemps seeks to create a captivating and distinctive space for its customers.

Jean-Marc Bellaiche, CEO of Printemps Groupe, recognizes the strategic importance of entering the U.S. market and the potential for growth. Bellaiche states, “The U.S. is essential in our international development strategy and opening in New York offers high visibility and growth potential. We think we can bring something unique, both to its engaged local consumer base and the strong tourist flows the city welcomes”.

Leading Printemps’ U.S. initiative is Laura Lendrum, the appointed CEO of Printemps America, Inc. Lendrum brings valuable experience from her previous roles at luxury brands such as Saint Laurent, Gucci, and Ralph Lauren in the North American market. She is assembling a dedicated team to support the strategic endeavor and ensure the success of Printemps’ entry into the U.S.

Printemps, with its 20 department stores in France and nine Citadium stores in the lifestyle sector, is a well-established player in the retail industry. The group has also made significant strides in e-commerce through its acquisition of fashion and beauty e-store, Place des Tendances, in 2013, and Europe’s leading online store for designer furniture and decor, Made in Design, in 2019.

With its upcoming opening in New York, Printemps aims to make a significant impact on the American luxury retail landscape. Combining its rich heritage, unique design, and strategic approach to experiential retail, Printemps seeks to captivate both local consumers and international tourists in the city that never sleeps.
