Prince of Wales’s Sustainable Markets Initiative Fashion Task Force Manifesto for Regenerative Fashion

The Prince of Wales’s Sustainable Markets Initiative Fashion Task Force has recently unveiled its Manifesto for Regenerative Fashion, which outlines its commitment to transforming the fashion industry into a more regenerative and sustainable sector. One of the key initiatives mentioned in the manifesto is a €1 million investment program in the Himalayas that will focus on restoring wildlife and promoting sustainable farming in the region.

To ensure the success of this project, the task force has partnered with Reforest Action and the Balipara Foundation. Led by Yoox founder Federico Marchetti, the task force worked in collaboration with the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA), which is led by scientist Marc Palahi, to create the manifesto. The task force boasts an impressive lineup of members, including renowned brands such as Burberry, Zalando, Chloé, Armani, Selfridges, Vestiaire Collective, Mulberry, and Stella McCartney. Together, they aim to transition the fashion industry towards a circular bio-based model that is both climate-positive and nature-positive.

The initiative’s launch follows another significant accomplishment by the task force, which introduced a Digital ID system in October. This innovative technology utilizes data to inform customers about the sustainability credentials of their clothing purchases, facilitating the adoption of circularity on a larger scale.

Federico Marchetti emphasized the practicality of the Regenerative Fashion Manifesto, stating that it goes beyond mere rhetoric. He further explained that the accompanying €1 million project in the Himalayas will serve as a blueprint for transforming the fashion industry into a more equitable and nature-positive future.

The Himalayan Regenerative Fashion Living Lab, established by the task force, aims to showcase the potential of regenerative fashion in restoring harmony between local communities, nature, and the environment. Through this initiative, the task force hopes to establish sustainable fashion value chains and set an example for other regions to follow.
