Prada’s Triumphant Comeback: A Bold Collection for Men

Prada’s latest men’s collection, presented by the creative duo of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, has made a triumphant comeback for the brand. The highly anticipated showcase featured an exceptional cast of Hollywood hipsters donning fashion that exudes both style and confidence.

The show kicked off with actor Kyle MacLachlan, looking dapper in a striking midnight wrap-around topcoat. His presence exuded the charm and assurance of a successful duke. Following his lead, Jeff Goldblum graced the runway in a sophisticated matt black coat with faux astrakhan armbands and an ultra-wide trim, showcasing his unique fashion sense. MacLachlan’s elegant dark blue coat was perfectly paired with wine and Carolina-blue lightweight trousers, resulting in a well-curated ensemble.

The setting for the show, held in the Fondazione Prada’s Deposito, was transformed into a grand cinematic cathedral. With a pale green carpet and soaring concrete columns, the atmosphere added to the allure of the collection. The cast members were further enhanced by pale makeup courtesy of renowned artist Pat McGrath, giving them an ethereal appearance reminiscent of silent movie stars.

The ensemble cast included notable actors such as Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Asa Butterfield, Damson Idris, Tom Mercier, Jaden Michael, Louis Partridge, Ashton Sanders, and Filippo Scotti. Each actor contributed their unique presence to the collection, adding to its overall impact. While the collection emphasized the art of tailoring, it also marked a departure from the baggy luxury streetwear trend, signaling a new direction in menswear.

The collection itself showcased impeccably crafted pieces, including raffishly cut double-breasted jackets with hidden buttons, foamy felt-wrapped redingotes, and eye-catching German Expressionist-inspired spy coats featuring exaggerated wide shoulders in various colors. The designers explained that the collection celebrates the concept of work and the significance of everyday activities, emphasizing elegance and dignity.

Although some critics drew comparisons between Prada’s collection and Balenciaga’s voluminous silhouettes, a closer look reveals the unique polish and Italian luxury that Prada is renowned for. The collection also featured high-tech nylon space suits and jumpsuits, perfect for those working in hazardous environments. These pieces were accompanied by matching backpacks and satchels, showcasing both functionality and style.

The show reached its climax with multiple balloon coats in Prada’s signature nylon fabric, boasting moody hues. The iconic Prada logo, with its distinctive v-shaped form, could be seen on nearly every look, including whimsical absurdist mini cartridge boxes worn at the small of the back. In a playful response to critics who accused Simons of devaluing the brand with excessive v-shaped jewelry, the duo sent out mini toy-robot earrings for men.

Driven by a captivating remix soundtrack by Human League, this Prada collection has made a bold statement in the world of menswear for 2022. The impeccable tailoring, unique design elements, and meticulous attention to detail showcased the brand’s ability to innovate while maintaining its signature elegance and dignity. Prada’s return to form is undoubtedly an exciting development for fashion enthusiasts, and it sets the tone for menswear trends this year.
