Prada Seeks to Bolster Italian Factories, Hiring 400 Staffers

Prada, the renowned Italian luxury group, is embarking on an exciting expansion plan by adding more than 400 employees to its workforce by the end of 2023. The company aims to bolster its manufacturing capacity in Italy, specifically in the central regions of Umbria, Tuscany, and Marche, with a particular focus on leather goods and footwear production.

This strategic decision to increase its workforce comes as a response to Prada’s recent remarkable growth. In 2022 alone, the company experienced a substantial 25% surge in turnover, reaching an impressive 4.2 billion euros. Additionally, its net profit skyrocketed by an astounding 58%, amounting to 465 million euros. In order to sustain this exceptional growth trajectory, Prada deems it vital to enhance its production capabilities.

To achieve its goal, Prada is heavily investing in its own facilities and training programs. The company already boasts the Prada Group Academy, a training school established in 2000. Thus far, the academy has successfully trained 240 individuals under the expert guidance of its master craftsmen. Now, Prada aims to elevate these training efforts by enrolling an additional 200 individuals within a single year. The comprehensive training program will encompass seventeen apprenticeship modules, covering diverse trades within the leather goods, footwear, and clothing industries. This training will take place from April to December, with the aim of integrating the enrolled youths into the company by the end of 2023.

Aside from sourcing talent from its training school, Prada will also be recruiting close to 100 individuals for its leather goods division at the Scandicci factory near Florence. This expansion would result in a noteworthy 50% increase in the factory’s workforce. Additionally, Prada plans to considerably expand its hosiery division in Torgiano, located in the province of Perugia, by hiring 85 new employees. Furthermore, there will be additional hires at various locations specializing in leather goods, footwear, and clothing.

Prada’s intention with these new hires is to heighten the group’s autonomy and flexibility in meeting the demands of the market. The company already manages quality control of raw materials, finished products, and logistics in-house. Now, by enhancing its internal structures, training capacities, and workforce, Prada aims to further enrich its internal manufacturing skills. These investments in new hires serve as an integral part of Prada’s development strategy, as they will support its ongoing growth and ensure its enduring success within the luxury fashion industry.
