Prada Partners with Axiom Space for Lunar Space Suits

Italian fashion brand Prada has announced its partnership with Axiom Space, an American company specializing in astronautics and spaceflight, to collaborate on the creation of lunar space suits for NASA’s Artemis III mission. Scheduled for 2025, this mission aims to enable astronauts to explore and inhabit the lunar surface with optimal physical autonomy. Prada and Axiom Space will work together to develop technical materials and technological designs for the space suits, which will be named Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) and will follow NASA’s Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU).

This collaboration is an exciting venture for Prada, showcasing the brand’s avant-garde philosophy and its desire to venture into new frontiers, such as space exploration. It also reflects Prada’s ongoing interest in space, as the brand is currently hosting an exhibition titled “Wes Anderson – Asteroid City” at its Milan Foundation. The exhibition immerses visitors in the sets, costumes, and miniatures from the film of the same name, which depicts an astronomers’ convention in a deserted US city in 1955.

To create the space suits, Prada’s engineers will combine their own decades of experimentation, cutting-edge technology, and design craftsmanship with the expertise of Axiom Space. This collaboration builds upon Prada’s history of innovation, which began in the 1990s with Luna Rossa’s involvement in the America’s Cup sailing competition. By establishing its name in various fields, from fashion to space, Prada aims to demonstrate its adaptability and innovation. Projects like this require maximum expertise and convey a powerful message about the brand’s commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring new frontiers.
