Prada Invites program is once again showcasing the creativity of designers using nylon, one of its iconic materials. Prada aims to disrupt the conventions of luxury by using nylon as the main ingredient in its pieces. This unconventional approach has positioned many nylon pieces as entry-level items in their collections, resulting in best-selling products, especially bags, with recognizable designs.
For the 2019 season, Prada invited three female figures from the field of architecture to work with nylon and create pieces for the Spring-Summer collection. Japanese architect, Kazuyo Sejima, designed two unique bags with dark nylon and pastel-colored removable details. One bag, called “Daln,” is a convertible travel handbag, while the other, called “Yooo,” is a scarf bag that can also function as a travel pillow. Italian architect, Cini Boeri, created a compartmentalized modular shoulder bag, and American architect, Elizabeth Diller, designed “The Envelope,” a bag that can transform into a raincoat. Diller also conceived a handbag that can be worn as a backpack or harness, catering to urban needs.
These creations by Cini Boeri, Elizabeth Diller, and Kazuyo Sejima showcase the unique visions of their respective designers while embodying a contemporary approach to fashion. Each piece demonstrates coherence, modularity, and utility, adapting to the diverse needs of the wearer. In the past, designers such as Konstantin Grcic, Rem Koolhaas, Herzog & de Meuron, and Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec have also participated in the Prada Invites program.
The creations by Cini Boeri, Elizabeth Diller, and Kazuyo Sejima will be available for purchase in April.
