Prada Group CEO Lorenzo Bertelli Urges Increased Wages in Italy’s Manufacturing Sector

In a recent interview with the Italian daily paper La Repubblica, Prada Group CEO Lorenzo Bertelli shed light on the pressing issue of salary levels in Italy’s manufacturing sector. According to Bertelli, the current wages are no longer sufficient, and it is crucial to invest in human resources in order to raise the basic wage. He warns that if action is not taken, popular discontent will continue to rise, causing further challenges for the industry.

Bertelli highlighted the widespread unease among factory workers who are dissatisfied with their salary levels. He stressed that without positive energy, growth becomes difficult, and the overall atmosphere within the factories suffers. Bertelli estimates that around 8 to 10 million people in Italy are affected by this issue, as they struggle to manage the rising costs of petrol, utility bills, and food prices.

To tackle this issue effectively, Bertelli suggests that the government should implement a specific strategy to increase workers’ income. He believes that this will reignite enthusiasm and stimulate economic revival. Bertelli specifically called upon Italy’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, to make a strong strategic decision in this regard. He emphasized that Italy has numerous profitable companies and is the second-largest manufacturing country in Europe, with its workforce acting as a driving force for the economy.

Aside from addressing salary levels, Bertelli also discussed the importance of fringe benefits and bonuses in improving workers’ financial situations. While many companies, including Prada, already provide year-end bonuses, Bertelli underscores the need for a more structured intervention that is not solely dependent on individual entrepreneurs’ initiatives.

To conclude, Lorenzo Bertelli emphasizes the urgent need to address the salary levels in Italy’s manufacturing sector. He asserts that investing in human resources and raising the basic wage are crucial steps to mitigate popular discontent. As the CEO of Prada Group, Bertelli urges the government to take strategic action and provide financial support to workers. By doing so, he believes that Italy can foster renewed enthusiasm and achieve sustainable economic growth.
