Prada Focuses on Retail Network for Sustainability

Prada, the renowned Italian luxury group, is taking significant steps towards sustainability by focusing on its retail network. In collaboration with the Arc technology platform, Prada has engaged in monitoring and improving the environmental performance of its stores. This includes tracking energy and water consumption, waste management, product shipping, and even employee well-being. As a result of these ongoing efforts, Prada has already achieved LEED certification for 80 of its monobrand stores worldwide and has set a ambitious target of obtaining certification for 300 stores by 2024.

LEED certification, which was introduced by the US Green Building Council in 2000, is considered a highly prestigious assessment system for evaluating the sustainability of buildings. It assigns credits to buildings based on their adherence to sustainable development principles. Prada has gone the extra mile to ensure they accurately measure air quality and collect data for environmental impact assessment by installing a system developed by Future Green Building (FGB), a reputable consultancy firm in the field. The company has also conducted surveys among its employees to determine the overall “green” status across its stores.

Out of the total number of Prada stores that have achieved LEED certification, 81 have received LEED v4.1 Operations and Maintenance (O+M) certification, while 57 stores have been certified under LEED v4 for interior design and construction. Furthermore, three of Prada’s facilities, including the Scandicci factory, the Levanella logistics hub, and the Marchesi patisserie laboratory, have also received LEED certification for their building design and construction.

Some notable Prada stores that have obtained LEED certification include their flagship store in London, stores in Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and via Montenapoleone, and the group’s stores in Paris on rue de Grenelle and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. It is worth mentioning that the Miu Miu store in Shanghai, located within the International APM luxury shopping mall, has been awarded the prestigious Platinum certification, the highest LEED certification level.

Prada takes great pride in having the most LEED-certified stores in the luxury sector, enthusiastically supporting the increasing demand for environmentally-conscious practices in the fashion industry. By prioritizing sustainable operations, Prada sets a commendable example for other luxury brands, contributing to the growth of a more eco-friendly fashion industry.
