Prabal Gurung’s Grand Opening of Flagship Store on Bleecker Street

Prabal Gurung, the renowned Nepali designer based in the US, has made a significant leap forward with the grand opening of his very first flagship store located at 367 Bleecker Street in New York’s West Village. This milestone is part of the larger “Love, Bleecker” project aimed at breathing new life into the once-thriving fashion district and attracting a fresh crop of talented designers to the area. Leading the charge as the initiative’s first creative director, Gurung is paving the way for a new era of fashion on Bleecker Street.

Stepping into Gurung’s flagship store is like entering a world where rustic charm meets modern elegance. The space features a stunning wooden floor, sleek railings, and shelves that beautifully display Gurung’s exquisite designs. The front window showcases a mesmerizing light installation by artist Edward Ross, inspired by the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets of Nepal, Gurung’s homeland. The store exudes a harmonious blend of Gurung’s Nepali heritage with the contemporary design aesthetics of New York City.

In an interview with Vogue, Gurung shared his enthusiasm for the store opening, stating, “I’ve always dreamt of having my own store, and I wanted to infuse my roots and heritage into it.” He envisions the store as a sanctuary where women can explore a diverse range of offerings, from dazzling sequin dresses to casual yet chic slogan t-shirts and opulent cashmere shawls sourced from Nepal. A significant portion of the store’s proceeds will be dedicated to supporting the Shikshya Foundation in Nepal, a charitable organization founded by Gurung in 2011.

The “Love, Bleecker” project kicked off earlier this year with Brookfield taking the reins and acquiring the street’s vacant storefronts. Skylight has also joined forces with the initiative to curate a dynamic mix of stores along the historic street, spotlighting brands without a flagship presence. With a myriad of exciting events on the horizon for the neighborhood, Bleecker Street is poised for a renaissance that promises to captivate visitors and locals alike.
