Pinterest Predicts 2024 Trends

What will define the year 2024 in terms of fashion, beauty, decoration, and the desire for escape? Pinterest has recently released its annual report, Pinterest Predicts 2024, which offers valuable insights into emerging trends based on the platform’s predictive data analysis. By analyzing billions of daily searches from its 480 million users worldwide, Pinterest has identified 23 trends that will shape the year 2024.

One persistent trend that continues to gain popularity is the love for the past. Retro and vintage styles are on the rise, as evidenced by three identified trends. “Papi Cool” is a style that appeals to both Gen Z and Boomers, embracing a “grandfather” aesthetic with cardigans, corduroy, and berets. Vintage streetwear is also becoming increasingly popular for creating eclectic outfits. “Kitsch(enette)” is a trend that brings retro ambiance to homes, particularly in kitchens. Traditional country styles are being replaced by kitschy kitchens with vibrant colors and thrifted treasures. Even wedding ceremonies are experiencing a touch of nostalgia, with the rise of “Noces à facettes” inspired by the 70s, encouraging the use of bell-bottom pants and disco balls.

Another notable trend for 2024 is the desire for oceanic vibes and daily vacations. Younger generations, perhaps influenced by the prevailing gloominess in terms of economy, geopolitics, and climate, are seeking solace in the sea. Four trends highlight this longing for the oceanic escape. “Tentacule-ère” represents the fascination of Gen Z and Millennials with jellyfish, as seen in the increasing searches for jellyfish-related items like lamps, hats, and even hairstyles. “Aquatecture” is an emerging hobby focused on designing small aquariums that resemble underwater gardens. “Klein d’œil” acknowledges the prominence of the color blue in 2024. Even in the culinary world, there is a trend towards being “under the tropical spotlights,” with pineapple mocktails and aesthetically pleasing coconut recipes gaining popularity.

The desire for a “slow life” is also an affirmed trend for 2024. Younger generations are seeking peaceful moments, opting for fewer parties and more lazy mornings. This is reflected in the trend “Au lit days.” Additionally, there has been a significant increase in searches for body care routines, as seen in the trend “Pot à peau.” Authentic human relationships are valued, and the trend “Confidence pour confidence” shows that people are searching for emotional intimacy and meaningful connections with their partners and friends. Pinterest users are moving away from surface-level conversations towards more genuine interactions.

The year 2024 will also witness a generation that embraces a “Mix & Match” mentality. Young people are breaking away from established codes and playing with different styles. The trend “Western gothique” combines vintage American style with dark colors, resulting in the search surge for western bedding ideas, country bedroom ideas, and western gothique fashion. “Le Saint-Gra(s)al” reflects a culinary trend of fusion, with searches for quesadilla-style burgers and pizza pies on the rise.

Luxury brands, especially in the fashion and beauty sectors, can find inspiration in four additional trends. “La Mode XXL” encourages oversized earrings and exaggerated accessories. “Heavy Métal” embraces silver and chrome in personal style and home decor. “Nœud nœud” highlights the popularity of outfits, necklaces, and heels adorned with bows. “Recycle-âge” emphasizes users’ commitment to recycling fabrics and adopting anti-waste practices in fashion.
