PETA Invests in Farfetch to Push Anti-Fur Agenda

PETA is ramping up its efforts to end the use of fur in the fashion industry by strategically investing in luxury online retailer Farfetch. The move comes on the heels of Farfetch’s successful IPO, which saw its stock price surge on its first day of trading. By purchasing shares in the company, PETA now has a platform to directly advocate for the elimination of fur products from Farfetch’s offerings.

Yvonne Taylor, PETA’s Director of Corporate Projects, highlighted the shifting tide against fur in the fashion world, noting that many high-end designers are moving away from using animal pelts in favor of vegan alternatives. With major players like Gucci already denouncing fur and industry giant Yoox-Net-A-Porter implementing a ban, the pressure on Farfetch to follow suit is mounting.

Despite Farfetch’s continued sale of fur items and Karl Lagerfeld’s defense of its use, public sentiment is clearly against the practice. PETA cited surveys showing overwhelming opposition to real fur in the UK, signaling a strong demand for cruelty-free fashion alternatives. By acquiring shares in Farfetch and gaining a voice in the company’s decision-making process, PETA is positioning itself as a catalyst for change in the luxury fashion industry.

While the exact details of PETA’s investment in Farfetch remain undisclosed, the animal rights organization has a track record of successfully influencing companies to adopt fur-free policies.
