Patou’s Disco-Themed Ready-to-Wear Show in Paris

Disco dancing became the focal point of Patou’s ready-to-wear show in Paris, marking the start of a fashion-filled week in the city. Despite the ongoing unrest in France, Patou made the decision to proceed with their runway shows, showcasing their collection at Salle Wagram, located just 200 yards from the famous Champs-Élysées. While other brands like Celine chose to cancel their shows due to security concerns, Patou’s tight security measures did not deter influential guests, including Caro Daur, Tina Leung, and Anna Wintour, from attending.

The collection itself continued the contemporary Parisian cool aesthetic seen in Patou’s previous show at LVMH’s Samaritaine luxury market. The show started with baby doll dresses, cropped tank tops, and crystal-adorned party coats in a color palette of black, bright pumpkin, and peppermint. The atmosphere exuded joy and liveliness, with models walking around a central DJ booth in the basement while dance tunes played in the background.

Guillaume Henry, Patou’s creative director, then showcased his signature oversized cotton blouses with cape and butterfly sleeves. However, these pieces seemed overwhelming on regular-sized individuals and were not favored by influential figures in the front row. The collection quickly regained momentum with a range of jersey looks, bitter orange mini jackets, turquoise flamenco dresses, and logo tops. Standout accessories included logo half-moon bags and a variety of patent leather platform shoes and sandals, expected to be popular among customers.

After the show, Guillaume received praise from veteran supermodel and designer Inès de la Fressange, who described him as magnificent. Guillaume shared that the inspiration for the collection shifted from showcasing daywear to interpreting the spirit of dancing in Paris and the desire for cocktail and evening wear. The backstage area for the show was located upstairs in the historic dance hall, Salle Wagram, which has hosted iconic events in the past. Surprisingly, the show itself took place on the lower floor, which was a smaller and more intimate space.

Despite the ongoing issues in Paris, Patou’s decision to proceed with the show proved to be a success, attracting key figures in the fashion industry and presenting a collection that embodied the spirit and energy of the city.
