Paris Menswear Digital Debut

Paris Menswear Digital made its highly anticipated debut this season, concluding with a stellar lineup of indie filmmakers and young directors showcasing the future of fashion in a post-pandemic world. The digital experience proved that even in a virtual setting, fashion shows can still be as vibrant and engaging as ever. As the fashion industry adapts to the new normal, one thing is clear – the allure of a live runway show is irreplaceable.

The day started off with Lanvin’s ‘Le Palais Idéal’ presentation, staged in a whimsical grotto inspired by naive artist Ferdinand Cheval. The collection featured a mix of retro pieces for men and women, including Mod reefer coats and frilly polka dot dresses. Lanvin’s creative director also introduced the eye-catching Cat Bag, inspired by Art Deco design, underscoring the brand’s commitment to creating captivating, cinematic fashion moments.

We11done, a Korean streetwear label, impressed with their bold and eclectic collection, showcasing oversized blouses, elegant wool coats, and Mary Quant-inspired frocks. Phipps took a cinematic approach with a mock trailer titled ‘Spirit of Freedom,’ transporting viewers to a contemporary Wild West setting. White Mountaineering’s tech-savvy presentation featured impeccably tailored suits, fluid cabans, and multi-zip parkas.

Despite the shift to a digital format, designers successfully captured audiences with their innovative use of technology. From Dunhill’s archival footage to Palomo Spain’s moody Spanish-language clip, each presentation offered a fresh perspective on the future of fashion. While some collections left viewers puzzled, like Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s revealing white leather jockstrap and Thom Browne’s semi-nude video featuring Moses Sumney, the overall creativity and innovation of the season were undeniable.

In a season filled with groundbreaking designs, one thing remains certain – the true essence of fashion is best experienced live. As designers continue to push boundaries in virtual shows, the industry eagerly anticipates the return of in-person runway events. While Paris Menswear Digital may have come to a close, the allure and enchantment of a live fashion show will always have a special place in the hearts of fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
