Paris Fashion Week: Thrilling Edition of Women’s Ready-to-Wear Shows

Paris Fashion Week is gearing up for a thrilling edition of women’s ready-to-wear shows and presentations for autumn-winter 2023/2024. With a total of 106 houses participating, including 66 shows and 40 presentations, this season promises to be a spectacular showcase of fashion. The event, taking place from February 27 to March 7, will feature both new and returning designers, offering a mix of excitement and nostalgia.

Among the notable newcomers is Palm Angels, the luxury streetwear label owned by Farfetch. Under the leadership of Francesco Ragazzi, Palm Angels has gained significant recognition in the industry. The brand will be showcasing its collection in the City of Light on Sunday, March 5. Another newcomer is Dundas, an English brand founded by Norwegian designer Peter Dundas in 2017. After previously exhibiting at Haute Couture Week, Dundas is now making its debut in the ready-to-wear program of Paris Fashion Week.

In addition to the new faces, established brands like Schiaparelli, led by Daniel Roseberry, will grace the runway. Schiaparelli, known for its haute couture presentations, has chosen to showcase its “prêt-à-couture” collections during women’s fashion week. The brand will adopt an exciting and media-friendly show format on Thursday, March 2. Avellano, known for its latex creations, will be closing Fashion Week on Tuesday, March 7. The brand, traditionally showcased during men’s week, is seeking more visibility by positioning itself in the women’s schedule.

This edition of Paris Fashion Week also marks the return of iconic brands. After a 25-year hiatus, Pierre Cardin is back on the Parisian calendar. The fashion house, now under the direction of Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, will present its collection on March 5 at its historic boutique on Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Paco Rabanne, another historic house, will also be making a comeback after temporarily deviating from women’s ready-to-wear shows due to the pandemic. The show is scheduled for March 1.

Several labels are making a return to Paris after the aftermath of the pandemic. Alexander McQueen, which had temporarily shifted its focus to London and New York, will once again grace the Parisian runway. Shiatzy Chen and Uma Wang, who had previously opted for a digital format, are also returning to a physical show. Y/Project, after two years of mixed shows during men’s week, will be back on the women’s program.

Fashion enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the comeback of esteemed designer Martine Sitbon, who will be unveiling her new brand Rev during a separate presentation. Nina Ricci, which had been without a designer for two seasons, will showcase the first collection under its new creative director, Harris Reed, on March 3. On March 4, Ann Demeulemeester will present the creations of Ludovic de Saint Sernin, who has taken charge of the brand’s style this season.

Alongside established powerhouses like Chanel, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Lanvin, Givenchy, Balmain, Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga, Paris Fashion Week promises a multitude of highlights. The event will feature a tribute show dedicated to Vivienne Westwood on March 4, as well as a special guest appearance by the founders of Colville during the AZ Factory show. Additionally, the program of presentations will introduce new talents such as Chenpeng, Margaret Howell, Niccolò Pasqualetti, and Róisín Pierce.

However, it should be noted that eight brands will be absent from this season’s Fashion Week. Thom Browne, who recently assumed the presidency of the Council of American Fashion Designers (CFDA), has relocated to New York. Other brands, including Botter and Ludovic de Saint Sernin, have shifted from the women’s program to Men’s Fashion Week in January. Some brands have opted for presentations this season, such as Rochas, Gmbh, and Christian Wijnants. The Japanese label Beautiful People is no longer featured on the calendar, while Koché is considering a potential move to the men’s calendar in June.

As Paris Fashion Week approaches, industry professionals and fashion enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the spectacular shows, debuts, and noteworthy comebacks. The event is sure to captivate audiences with its diverse lineup and demonstrate the resilience and creativity of the fashion industry.
