Paris Fashion Week Preview

Paris Fashion Week is set to kick off with a unique twist this year, as Christian Dior jumps ahead of the usual start date to open the season on Monday, September 24. This change is a departure from the norm, as previously it was southern French label Jacquemus that had the honor of launching the runway action with an evening show.

One of the most eagerly awaited moments of the season is the debut of Hedi Slimane at Céline. Scheduled as a Friday evening show at 8:30 p.m., this debut marks a significant shift from the daytime shows led by Phoebe Philo in the past. Alongside Slimane, other new designers including Casey Cadwallader for Mugler and Yolanda Zobel for Courrèges will also be unveiling their collections.

Unfortunately, this season will be missing out on Carven and Vanessa Seward, who are facing challenges with their brands. In addition, labels such as Lanvin, Nina Ricci, and Lacoste are currently without designers, resulting in their absence from the showcase. Japanese designer Jun Takahashi of Undercover is also redirecting his focus to menswear, with a women’s presentation planned for the season.

Despite these setbacks, there will be fresh talent gracing the Paris catwalks, with brands like Afterhomework, Anton Belinskiy, A.W.A.K.E., and Ottolinger making their debuts. With a total of 82 runway shows scheduled in Paris, this event solidifies its status as the second largest fashion week globally after New York. Paris Fashion Week remains a magnet for established designers and emerging talent alike, cementing its reputation as a must-attend event for fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
