Paris Fashion Week Day Three: Debut Collection by Gabriela Hearst for Chloe

Paris Fashion Week Day Three was a whirlwind of activity, with a diverse lineup of shows that captivated audiences around the world. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the debut collection by Gabriela Hearst for the iconic fashion house, Chloé. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing lockdown, Hearst managed to create a splash by shooting her collection at night in the heart of Saint-Germain, Paris, the birthplace of Chloé. The video show was later released online, allowing fashion enthusiasts to experience the magic at 1 p.m.

Chloé, as the leading fashion brand within the Richemont luxury group, took the spotlight on Day Three. Gabriela Hearst’s appointment as the new creative director is seen as a testament to the conglomerate’s commitment to its fashion brands. Following the recent launch of Alber Elbaz’s fashion house, AZ Factory, and the appointment of Pieter Mulier as the successor to Azzedine Alaïa, the anticipation for Hearst’s Chloé debut was palpable. Her previous show for her eponymous label in New York received critical acclaim, further raising the bar for her Chloé collection.

Hearst’s collection showcased a range of stylish and timely pieces, shot against the backdrop of Parisian cobblestoned streets at night. The collection featured platform boots, fringed ponchos, recycled cashmere dresses, and environmentally friendly materials, reflecting Hearst’s commitment to fashion that is both fashionable and sustainable. Additionally, the collection paid homage to Chloé’s archives with a selection of coats, bags, and accessories. Despite drawing some similarities to Hearst’s own label, the collection was well-received.

Patou, another standout show of the day, aimed to bring joy and vibrancy to the runway. Designer Guillaume Henry found inspiration in a photo from 1972, resulting in a collection filled with voluminous blouses and coats in bold colors. The pieces, when paired with jeans, could easily transition from high fashion to a more casual look. Patou’s commitment to sustainability was evident, with the inclusion of cuffs made from recycled materials and coats made from recycled cashmere. Each room in Patou’s headquarters reflected a different color, creating a visually stunning and cohesive presentation. The collection was completed with floral metal jewelry, adding a touch of grandeur to the overall aesthetic.

Acne, known for its innovative and provocative designs, once again delivered a captivating show for the Fall/Winter 2021 season. The collection, shot in a mock factory, exuded the essence of downtown 1980s style. Models introduced themselves before appearing in an abandoned art gallery, mirroring the broken pattern floral invitation sent to editors. Standout pieces in the collection included a pink felt knit pantsuit, voluminous terylene dresses, and ribbed knit skirts paired with over-dried wool tops. The show, despite being audience-free, deserved a standing ovation for its creativity and boldness.

Thebe Magugu’s presentation titled ‘Ultimate Midnite Angels’ was nothing short of captivating. The video showcased a baptism, gangster goddesses, and rival gangs in a desert setting. The collection beautifully intertwined elements of African spirituality, with polka-dot dresses, oversized orange nylon trenches, and provocative imagery of black nuns with white-painted faces. Thebe Magugu’s storytelling ability and creativity were on full display in this visually stunning production.

Paris Fashion Week Day Three showcased the incredible talent and innovation within the fashion industry. With debuts, polished designs, avant-garde aesthetics, and awe-inspiring moments, the day left fashion enthusiasts eagerly anticipating what the rest of the week has in store. As the event continues, the excitement grows for the upcoming shows and the next wave of groundbreaking designs.
