Paris Fashion Week: Contrasting Shows Highlight Courrèges and Rahul Mishra

Paris Fashion Week continued with two contrasting shows – Courrèges and Rahul Mishra. Courrèges impressed the audience with its minimal and wearable collection, while Rahul Mishra relaunched his ready-to-wear line, showcasing craftsmanship and accessibility.

Courrèges, known for its streamlined design, stayed true to its aesthetic with clean, graphic cuts and geometric lines. The show’s theme, ‘Duel in the sun,’ was represented by an immense square of dry white sand, creating a desert-like ambiance. As models strutted down the runway in asymmetrical white dresses, dust was kicked up, adding to the dramatic effect. Nicolas Di Felice, creative director of Courrèges, continued to evolve the brand’s DNA with this collection, incorporating fresh, cool, and contemporary elements. The silhouettes were ultra-short, with mini wrap skirts and small rounded-edge coats taking center stage. The color palette was minimalist, dominated by black, shades of white, and earth tones. Asymmetry played a significant role, with dresses and jackets worn off the shoulder, and unique cuts featured on shirts and coats. Courrèges’ futuristic style was subtly present in select accessories and details, such as transparent plastic bras and curved heels on shoes. Leather, crocodile effect, and vinyl were also incorporated, adding an edgy touch to the collection.

Rahul Mishra chose Paris as the platform to relaunch his ready-to-wear line, ‘Afew.’ The line, which had been put on pause during the pandemic, focuses on sustainability and craftsmanship. Mishra aims to highlight the talent of his country’s artisans and maintain his commitment to sustainable fashion. “My artisans who usually work on couture creations are all taking part in the project. Most of the embellishments are made by hand in our workshops,” Mishra explained before the show. Unlike his couture pieces, the Afew line is more affordable and inclusive, targeting a wider audience. The collection features pieces suitable for everyday wear, evening wear, and partying, with Mishra’s signature embroidery, appliqués, rhinestones, gathers, and ruffles. With prices ranging from 350 to 2,500 euros, the brand positions itself in the accessible luxury market. Reliance Brands, which acquired a 60% stake in the brand, has plans to distribute Afew through an international multi-brand network and dedicated boutiques.

Paris Fashion Week continues to captivate audiences with its diverse shows, showcasing both minimal cool and flamboyant chic. Courrèges impresses with its wearable and streamlined designs, while Rahul Mishra redefines affordable luxury with his sustainable and artisanal approach. Both designers have proven once again that Paris remains at the forefront of global fashion trends.
