Pandora Appoints Irving Holmes Wong as General Manager for China Business

Danish jeweller Pandora has announced the appointment of Irving Holmes Wong as the new general manager of its China business. Wong, who will assume the role on April 7, will be responsible for overseeing Pandora’s operations in the Greater China cluster, which includes Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau. With over 2,000 employees and 250 concept stores in the region, this division is crucial for the company’s growth and success.

Wong brings a wealth of experience in the cosmetics industry, having previously served as the managing director for the Asia-Pacific region and general manager for China at Avon. Prior to his time at Avon, he held senior management positions at Bacardi-Martini, Revlon, and L’Oreal. Wong’s deep understanding of the Chinese market and his expertise in transforming and growing businesses in the region make him a valuable addition to Pandora.

Martino Pessina, Pandora’s chief commercial officer, expressed confidence in Wong’s abilities and highlighted his strategic brand-building skills. Pessina believes that Wong’s experience in turnaround and growth acceleration will strengthen Pandora’s position in Greater China and help the company achieve its ambitious long-term goals.

Pandora has set its sights on tripling its business in China compared to 2019, and it has developed a two-phase plan to achieve this growth. In the first phase, the company aims to solidify its brand by focusing on collectability, affordability, and self-expression. The second phase will involve expanding Pandora’s store network in the region.

Wong expressed his enthusiasm for joining Pandora and leading the brand’s growth chapter in China. He sees the company as a legacy brand with a clear purpose and story, and he is eager to revive its presence in the Chinese market.

Mainland China has been a significant contributor to Pandora’s financial success, generating DKK 1.1 billion (US$161.2 million) in revenue in 2021. This accounted for approximately 5% of the company’s total revenue for the year. With Wong’s appointment and Pandora’s strategic plans, the company aims to further strengthen its position in the Chinese market and drive significant growth in the coming years.
