Palomo Spain: groundbreaking designs at the New York City Ballet’s fall gala

Palomo Spain, the innovative designer hailing from Cordoba, recently had an extraordinary opportunity to showcase his avant-garde creations on a grand scale. As part of its tenth anniversary celebrations, the esteemed New York City Ballet invited Palomo Spain, alongside several other prominent designers, to dress its classical dancers for the annual fall gala.

This highly anticipated event took place on September 28th at the renowned Lincoln Center, with the gala being hosted by the illustrious actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who also serves as the vice-president of the ballet. Collaborating with Palomo Spain were renowned designers such as Dries Van Noten, Sarah Burton, Thom Browne, and Iris Van Herpen. Additionally, this year’s lineup included defining names like Giles Deacon, Raf Simons, and Spanish designer Alejandro Gómez Palomo.

Palomo Spain unveiled a captivating series of ten monochromatic and oversized ensembles during the gala, staying true to his distinctive style. These remarkable garments, adorned with over 800,000 Swarovski crystals, exuded an enchanting shimmer under the stage lights. A dedicated team of 16 skilled artisans meticulously applied the crystals over a span of 1,500 hours in the New York City Ballet’s ateliers, employing a contemporary embroidery technique known as crystal transfer.

The collaboration between Palomo Spain and the New York City Ballet served as a true fusion of artistic forms. The costumes were produced in collaboration with choreographer Gianna Reisen and City Ballet’s costume director, Marc Happel. Moreover, the performance was accompanied by an original score composed by the talented Solange Knowles, tailored exclusively for this momentous event.

The inclusion of Palomo Spain’s designs in the New York City Ballet’s fall gala was a significant milestone, commemorating not only the designer’s tenth anniversary but also displaying his ability to create breathtaking pieces that seamlessly blend fashion and dance. It embodied a celebration of creativity, craftsmanship, and the transformative power of collaboration.

However, Palomo Spain’s artistic pursuits extend beyond this collaboration with the New York City Ballet. Just over a month ago, the visionary designer teamed up with German sportswear brand Puma to release a trailblazing genderless collection, inspired by the soccer icons of the 1970s. This collection further solidified Palomo Spain’s reputation as a boundary-pushing designer, embracing new and exciting possibilities within the realm of fashion.

In conclusion, Palomo Spain’s involvement in the New York City Ballet’s fall gala serves as a testament to his exceptional talent and creative vision. With his ingenious designs and unwavering attention to detail, he brought a distinct perspective to the stage, elevating the performance to unprecedented heights. As Palomo Spain continues to evolve and explore uncharted territories in the fashion world, the anticipation for his future endeavors grows exponentially.
