Palais Galliera: Explore Fashion History Virtually

After being closed for an extended period of time and facing challenges in reopening, the Palais Galliera now allows fashion enthusiasts to explore its collections virtually on its website. This virtual experience serves as a comprehensive history of fashion.

The Palais Galliera had been shut down since July 2018 in order to undergo renovations, following exhibitions dedicated to renowned designers Martin Margiela and Jeanne Lanvin. Originally scheduled to reopen on March 31st, the museum had plans to showcase the exhibition “Gabrielle Chanel, Manifesto of Fashion” in its newly created 670m2 galleries named after the iconic creator of Rue Cambon. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing health situation, the unveiling of the museum’s new face has been delayed.

In the meantime, the Palais Galliera has made efforts to entertain and engage its future visitors by making several thematic and chronological collections available for online viewing. These collections are drawn from the museum’s impressive archive, which includes 30,000 costumes, 35,000 accessories, 30,000 images, 55,000 graphic art documents, 250 dolls, 2,500 doll clothes and accessories, and 5,000 pieces of underwear. Accompanied by informative texts, visitors can now explore these treasures through the museum’s website.

Furthermore, the museum is actively sharing its history and content on social media platforms. One notable initiative is the #MuseumAtHome series, which allows viewers to delve into the stories behind various items, accessories, photographs, designers, and couturiers who have made significant contributions to the fashion industry.

To embark on this virtual journey into the world of fashion history, visit the Palais Galliera’s website and immerse yourself in the diverse and captivating collections that are available.
