OTB Reports Impressive Financial Success in 2022

OTB, the esteemed Italian fashion group behind renowned luxury brands such as Diesel, Maison Margiela, Marni, and Viktor & Rolf, has wrapped up the year 2022 with an impressive show of financial success. The company proudly announced a turnover of 1.743 billion euros, marking a significant 14% increase compared to the previous year. Furthermore, its net sales, excluding royalties and other income, reached an impressive 1.63 billion euros, signifying a commendable 12% increase.

The luxury division of OTB witnessed an outstanding surge in sales, experiencing a remarkable 32% increase compared to the previous year and an astounding 103% increase when compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Among its exceptional luxury brands, Marni stood out with a commendable 29% sales increase. The brand, led by the creative direction of Francesco Risso since 2016, has successfully revitalized and expanded its clientele through its innovative creativity, impactful communication, and well-attended fashion showcases.

Another remarkable performer within the luxury division is Maison Margiela, helmed by creative director John Galliano since 2014. This prestigious label remains the top-seller within the luxury division, boasting a remarkable 24% increase in turnover compared to the previous year. The inclusion of the German label Jil Sander, which joined the OTB group in 2022 under the guidance of Lucie and Luke Meier, contributed significantly to the group’s success, with a noteworthy 61% increase in sales compared to the previous year.

In regards to the flagship brand, Diesel, specific figures were not disclosed. However, the company stated that it is continuing its repositioning efforts within the “alternative to luxury” segment. Diesel has strategically invested in product development, impactful communication strategies, and store renovations to attract and cater to the high-end market. Moreover, the brand’s distribution network has undergone a rationalization process, aimed at enhancing profitability and ensuring its sustainable growth.

Beyond its luxury brands, OTB also encompasses Brave Kid, a prominent children’s fashion brand, and Staff International, a production and distribution company responsible for managing licensed brands like Dsquared2. The group has been steadfastly investing in its future by opening 73 new stores in crucial markets such as China, South Korea, and the United States. Additionally, it has placed a strong emphasis on digital innovation through its BVX division and has successfully reorganized Staff International’s industrial structure.

In terms of profitability, OTB reported a net profit of 105 million euros in 2022, signifying a substantial improvement compared to the previous year. The company’s gross operating profit (Ebitda) reached an impressive 314 million euros, marking a commendable 22% increase when excluding non-recurring items. Geographically, Asia-Pacific continues to hold significant importance for OTB, with its most crucial market being Japan, accounting for nearly 25% of the group’s total turnover. The company has also bolstered its presence in China and North America, capitalizing on their robust markets.

Overall, OTB’s remarkable success in 2022 can be attributed to the exceptional performance of its luxury brands, strategic investments in crucial markets, and a steadfast focus on digital innovation. The company continues to strengthen its position within the industry, further enhancing profitability while maintaining a robust production base and nurturing strong relationships with its suppliers.
