Online Boutiques Launch Repair and Alteration Program to Promote Sustainability

Three major online boutiques, Net-a-Porter, Mr Porter, and The Outnet, are taking steps to combat clothing waste and promote sustainability by launching a new repair and alteration program in partnership with The Seam. In response to the growing demand for eco-responsible practices in the fashion industry, these e-retailers aim to prolong the lifespan of products and reduce the disposal of clothes that are still in good condition.

The repair and alteration service is not limited to clothing, but also extends to handbags, shoes, and jewelry. Customers will have the option to personalize their items while taking advantage of the maintenance service. The estimated turnaround time for repairs is between seven to ten days, and an express service will be available to customers, subject to availability.

The initiative was made possible through a partnership with The Seam, a UK-based maintenance company that has an extensive network of local manufacturers. The program has already been launched on the Net-a-Porter platform and will be expanded to Mr Porter and The Outnet websites in the coming spring.

Alison Loehnis, interim CEO of the Yoox Net-a-Porter Group, expressed her belief that fashion from previous seasons can still have a place in customers’ future wardrobes. This operation builds on a series of green activations implemented by Yoox Net-a-Porter in recent months. For example, Net-a-Porter and Yoox collaborated on a sustainable women’s ready-to-wear capsule collection created by students from The Prince’s Foundation. Additionally, the entire Yoox Net-a-Porter group, as well as other entities like About You and Zalando, launched an online platform to assist their brand partners in setting science-based climate goals.

These efforts reflect the ongoing innovation and dedication of luxury players in meeting consumers’ increasingly urgent desire for sustainable fashion. The fashion industry continues to evolve to align with green expectations and address the issue of clothing waste.
