Off-White and Shang Xia Showcase Unique Styles at Paris Fashion Week AW23

Paris Fashion Week AW23 began with a bang as Off-White and Shang Xia took to the runway on the fourth day of the prestigious event. Both fashion houses brought their unique styles and creative visions to the forefront, captivating the audience.

Off-White started the show with a theatrical display, setting the stage with a massive steel globe covered in earth and stones, creating a lunar landscape. This symbolic blank canvas represented a fresh start for the brand under the direction of designer Ibrahim Kamara. The collection featured predominantly all-black ensembles, embellished with metal eyelets and silver rings, giving them a martial edge. However, there were also pops of monochrome orange and sky blue outfits, as well as knitwear with holes and delicate chains, adding variety to the collection. The inclusion of camouflage-style jackets and coats in khaki and brown tones evoked images of earth viewed from above. Notably, a caramel-colored leather suit with images of miniature people photographed from an aerial perspective made a striking impression. The women exuded an air of regality, while the men appeared as explorers or warriors of the universe with their backpacks and mini-bags. Futuristic accessories such as elongated glasses, spherical earrings, and toothed wheel caps contributed to the overall sci-fi aesthetic. Unexpected plastic reflectors on the shoe toes added an interesting touch. The collection culminated with heavy down jackets, military trousers, and a stunning silver spacesuit made from an embossed survival blanket.

Shang Xia, on the other hand, delivered an elegant and lightweight collection that showcased the brand’s continued redefinition under the guidance of creative director Yang Li. The models gracefully walked the runway in raised mules without heels, accompanied by live electric guitar music, creating an ambiance of modernity and sophistication. The collection featured flowing tops and dresses adorned with long rectangles of undulating fabric, creating an ethereal and airy effect. Thoughtfully placed cutouts and gaps, such as those under the armpits or on the sides of cashmere coats, added a touch of sensuality. Openwork knitwear and skirts revealed circles of bare skin in some ensembles, further accentuating the collection’s attention to detail. The design aesthetic remained refined and minimalist, with solid blocks of color dominating the collection, punctuated by occasional bursts of vibrant red or lemon yellow. Select pieces were adorned with graphic patterns reminiscent of rocky mountains, infusing a sporty element into the collection. Shang Xia targeted the Gen Z audience, particularly the Chinese market, offering wearable and versatile clothing options such as tweed dresses, loose-fitting jackets, mini dresses, shirts, capes, and lace-up trainers.

Overall, the presentations from Off-White and Shang Xia at Paris Fashion Week exemplified the immense creativity and vision of both brands. Their distinct styles, impeccable attention to detail, and ability to captivate the audience reaffirmed their prominent positions in the fashion world.
