Norwegian Fashion Brand Holzweiler Secures External Investment from Sequoia Capital China

Norwegian fashion and lifestyle brand Holzweiler has secured its first-ever external investment from Sequoia Capital China, a leading venture capital firm. This significant partnership aims to bring Holzweiler’s unique appeal and community spirit to a global audience. As part of Sequoia’s esteemed portfolio, which includes renowned brands such as SSense, Ami, We11Done, and Desiree, Holzweiler will receive the necessary support from Carnegie Investment Banking to advance its creative vision and commitment to physical retail experiences and design collaborations.

Currently, Holzweiler operates six physical stores, including the Holzweiler Multibrand Store that offers a diverse range of fashion, beauty, and furniture concepts. In addition, the brand has a successful e-commerce business and partners with international luxury retailers as wholesale partners. The brand’s outerwear and knitwear categories have experienced extraordinary growth in international markets, contributing to an impressive revenue compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 60% over the past three years.

With the expertise, global reach, and resources of Sequoia China, Holzweiler aims to accelerate and expand its direct-to-consumer business on an international scale, with a particular focus on China, the US, and the UK. To further enhance its presence, Holzweiler plans to open a flagship store in Copenhagen in October, followed by its first location in London in spring next year.

Founded in 2012 by siblings Andreas and Susanne Holzweiler, the brand is recognized for its conscious practices, material innovation, and celebration of the natural world. Holzweiler frequently collaborates with artists, musicians, architects, and poets, making these partnerships an integral part of its offerings. Notable collaborations include those with the Munch Museum, Ali Gallefoss at Paris Fashion Week, the vegan movement Wild & The Moon, and #ColetteForever collaborations for Colette’s closing.

Holzweiler’s strong connection with architects Snøhetta further compliments its artistic focus. The brand’s upcoming runway show during Copenhagen Fashion Week promises to be its most ambitious yet. This new investment from Sequoia China marks a significant milestone for Holzweiler and heralds the beginning of an exciting new phase for the brand. The company’s leadership team expressed their enthusiasm about the partnership and their vision for dynamic growth and sustainable momentum.

Angelica Cheung, Venture Partner at Sequoia Capital China, commended Holzweiler’s exceptional quality, design, and modern lifestyle approach. She believes that the brand has immense potential for global expansion, particularly at a time when people are increasingly valuing nature, the outdoors, and human connection. Sequoia China is fully dedicated to supporting Holzweiler’s growth journey with all of their available resources.
