New York Fashion Week: Tom Ford and Khaite

New York Fashion Week came to a close with a bang this season, despite the absence of some big names in the industry. Designers like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein were noticeably missing from the lineup, but that didn’t detract from the excitement. One of the standout moments of the week was the final major show by Tom Ford, the chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

With over a hundred collections scheduled, there was no shortage of fashion to admire at New York Fashion Week. However, it was Khaite, a rising star brand from the Empire State, that stole the spotlight. Known for their unique twist on American sportswear, Khaite continues to make a significant impact on the fashion scene.

Tom Ford’s collection was a testament to his signature style, blending retro American glamour with a European twist. The runway showcased a fusion of 80s Italian optimism, 70s French chic, and an LA spin. The collection featured attention-grabbing pieces, such as Capri pant and blazer combos in golden leopard prints, as well as velvet moiré tied-up shirts paired with velvet jodhpur pants. Ford’s designs perfectly captured the essence of the era and appealed to his fashion-forward clientele.

The audience, including notable celebrities like Saweetie, Pom Klementieff, Jennifer Hudson, and Camila Coelho, were captivated by Ford’s bold and glamorous designs. The models exuded confidence as they strutted down the runway, adorned with chunky necklaces, thick gold belts, and shiny metallic bracelets that complemented the outfits.

In addition to the show, Tom Ford released behind-the-scenes event videos and first looks links, providing a glimpse into the world behind the collection. Ford highlighted the influence of social media, particularly Instagram, on the fashion industry. He noted that people now dress up primarily for special occasions or for the purpose of sharing photos online. This has led to a trend of more cartoon-like designs that stand out on phone screens. While some critics felt that this collection didn’t reach the same level of distinction as Ford’s previous works, it still made a lasting impact.

On the other hand, Khaite showcased its talent in reviving classic ideas with a contemporary edge. Designer Catherine Holstein demonstrated her skillful draping techniques through her Grecian muse dresses, which featured strips, ties, and crisscross details. The color palette of silver, jade, oak, and steel drew inspiration from the dramatic architecture of New York City. Unfortunately, European audiences were unable to experience the sultry and romantic grace that Khaite brought to the runway in person.

In conclusion, Tom Ford and Khaite were the final highlights of New York Fashion Week. Ford’s attention-seeking designs and Khaite’s conceptual sportswear both left a lasting impression on the fashion industry. These designers showcased their unique visions for the future of American fashion, solidifying their places as influential figures in the industry.
