New York Fashion Week, the highly anticipated event in the fashion world, is scheduled to take place from September 13 through 17, despite the obstacles presented by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The event will implement strict sanitation measures and limitations on audience capacity to ensure the safety of all participants.
Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York has issued a set of guidelines to guarantee the smooth operation of the fashion week, which will primarily focus on women’s ready-to-wear collections for Spring/Summer 2021. With only 50 attendees permitted at outdoor runways and indoor shows being held as closed events with spaces limited to 50% capacity, including models and production teams, the primary goal is to reduce the risk of virus transmission. Spectators will not be allowed in order to create a secure environment for all involved.
To adapt to the current circumstances, New York Fashion Week will be supported by the digital platform Runway360, introduced by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in July. The event will encompass a mix of physical and virtual runway shows, presentations, and exclusive content from designers, as well as a cultural program. While some well-known brands have chosen to present their collections outside the official calendar, the event promises to feature over 40 brands and offer a platform for industry professionals to exhibit their creations.
Governor Cuomo stressed the importance of adhering to stringent public health protocols to safeguard the well-being of all participants. With measures such as mandatory mask-wearing, social distancing, temperature checks upon entry, limited personnel, and screening tests in place, the event aims to create a safe environment for everyone involved.
In a statement, Leslie Russo, executive vice president of IMG’s fashion events group, underscored the significance of New York Fashion Week in providing a crucial opportunity for industry professionals to resume work safely. Despite the challenges faced by the fashion industry in recent months, the event aims to bring together designers, models, stylists, photographers, and other professionals to showcase their talents and creativity in a protected environment. Ultimately, the safety and health of all participants remain the utmost priority as New York Fashion Week enters a new era in the aftermath of the pandemic.
