Mulberry x Nicholas Daley Collection: The Fusion of Music and Fashion

Mulberry has recently announced its latest collaboration, this time with designer Nicholas Daley, as part of its Editions collection. The Mulberry x Nicholas Daley collection merges music and fashion, resulting in a unique and influential partnership.

This collaboration serves as a celebration of both brands’ connections to music and the creative communities they are involved in. Daley draws inspiration from the vibrant eras of jazz, reggae, and rock ‘n’ roll in the 1960s and 1970s, infusing it with his own brand’s musical influences. The campaign film that accompanies the collection showcases this musical theme.

The centerpiece of the collaboration is the reimagined Mulberry Antony satchel. Daley incorporates elements from his Jamaican and Scottish heritage, incorporating whipstitch, fringe, and braided motifs that pay homage to legendary musicians like Miles Davis, Roy Ayers, and Jimi Hendrix. The capsule collection possesses a tonal palette of navy, ochre, and oak, chosen to reflect the colors typically worn by musicians on stage.

Alongside the satchel, the collaboration also features a range of luxury musical accessories, marking a first for Mulberry. These accessories are designed with Daley’s community of stage-performing musicians in mind, including fringed guitar and saxophone straps in complementary suede tones, as well as a plectrum case and embroidered hats. The embroidery techniques used in these accessories echo the artisanal craftsmanship found in leather goods from North Africa and the Caribbean.

The Mulberry x Nicholas Daley collection also mirrors the rich textures seen in Daley’s ready-to-wear collections. The iconic Postman’s Lock hardware is subtly inverted and framed by delicate embroidery, providing a unique twist to the designs.

In terms of sustainability, the Regular and Oversized Antony models are produced at Mulberry’s carbon-neutral factories in Somerset. Furthermore, all leathers and suedes used in the collection are accredited by the Leather Working Group, ensuring the use of ethical and high-quality materials.

To showcase the collection, Mulberry has released a campaign film that features a live jazz session and a specially composed composition by Shabaka Hutchings, frontman of Sons of Kemet. Grammy-nominated recording artist Lianne La Havas also accompanies the performance, creating a fusion of music and fashion.

Overall, the Mulberry x Nicholas Daley collaboration exemplifies the power of merging music and fashion. With its nods to musical history, luxury accessories, and sustainability efforts, this collection is poised to leave a lasting impact on the fashion world.
