Mulberry Unveils Eco-Leather Portobello Tote

Mulberry has recently unveiled its first 100% eco-leather bag, named the Portobello Tote, as part of its Mulberry Green initiative. This move comes in response to the growing demand for sustainable fashion options, with consumers increasingly prioritizing ethical and environmentally-friendly products.

The Portobello Tote is a versatile bag that can be carried by hand or worn across the body, making it a practical and stylish choice for everyday use. What sets this bag apart is its sustainable production process and materials. Made entirely in the UK at Mulberry’s carbon-neutral Somerset factories, the bag is constructed using Heavy Grain leather sourced from a gold-rated tannery known for its eco-friendly practices.

In addition to the responsibly sourced leather, Mulberry has incorporated Epic EcoVerde thread, a recycled polyester fiber, into the design of the Portobello Tote. The bag features a minimalist design, omitting traditional linings and metal hardware to reduce its environmental impact even further.

To ensure that the cost of responsible sourcing and production does not fall on consumers, Mulberry has pledged to donate 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of the Portobello Tote to the World Land Trust. This donation will support the organization’s efforts to protect habitats and wildlife across the globe.

Creative Director Johnny Coca drew inspiration from the functionality of the plastic bag when designing the Portobello Tote. By elevating this everyday item into an elegant and durable tote, Mulberry aims to offer a sustainable alternative to traditional leather bags without compromising on style or functionality.

Priced at £795, the Portobello Tote is available in a range of signature and seasonal shades, catering to different preferences and styles. With its sustainable materials, thoughtful design, and commitment to conservation, Mulberry’s eco-leather bag embodies the brand’s dedication to a more sustainable future in the fashion industry.
