Mulberry Takes Stand Against Use of Exotic Leathers

Luxury British brand Mulberry has recently announced that it will be taking a stand against the use of exotic leathers in its collections. This decision follows in the footsteps of other high-end brands such as Chanel, Diane von Furstenberg, Paul Smith, Victoria Beckham, and Vivienne Westwood, who have also made the choice to exclude alligator, crocodile, ostrich, lizard, and snake skins from their designs. Mulberry’s new initiative will be implemented starting with its Spring-Summer 2020 collection.

Rosie Wollacott, Mulberry’s Director of Sustainable Development, explained the brand’s decision, stating, “We have carefully considered and continually reviewed our sustainability measures and goals. From the beginning, we decided not to use exotic skins in our collections, and we stand by that decision.”

In addition to eliminating exotic leathers, Mulberry has already opted to refrain from using animal fur, a move that has received praise from animal rights organization PETA. This recent action reflects Mulberry’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. Last December, the brand introduced its first eco-friendly leather bag called the Portobello, which was created by former Creative Director, Johnny Coca.
