Mugler Makes Highly-Anticipated Comeback on Paris Catwalks

Mugler, the renowned fashion brand, is making a highly-anticipated comeback on the Paris catwalks with a new concept show during this month’s haute couture season. The brand will showcase its Fall Winter 2022-23 collection by designer Casey Cadwallader at La Villette on January 26th. La Villette, located in northwest Paris, is a sprawling complex known for housing Europe’s largest science museum, concert venues, the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris, and the Philharmonic of Paris.

Although technically a ready-to-wear collection, Mugler’s show will be the highlight of the four-day couture season from January 23rd to 26th. This will mark Cadwallader’s first physical live runway show since February 2020, just before the global lockdown imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, Cadwallader has focused solely on presenting shows in video format.

The forthcoming show by Mugler promises to be an immersive experience across all channels, as it will be presented in front of a live audience. The collection will also be available for immediate purchase on the Mugler website and through selected retail partners. This decision to return to the runway holds special significance as it comes almost exactly one year after the passing of the brand’s founder, Thierry Mugler, on January 23, 2022. Celebrating the designer’s work, Thierry Mugler: Couturissime, a major retrospective exhibition, had taken place shortly before his death, sparking a renewed appreciation for his contributions to the fashion industry.

Since Thierry Mugler’s retirement in 2002, the brand had halted its runway shows until 2011, when Nicola Formichetti took on the role of creative director. He was later succeeded by David Koma, who received acclaim for his designs. However, Casey Cadwallader has emerged as Mugler’s most celebrated successor, skillfully blending the brand’s distinctive codes and establishing himself as a prominent figure in contemporary fashion. Throughout the lockdown period, Cadwallader garnered praise for his collection videos featuring top models like Bella Hadid, Irina Shayk, Alek Wek, and Soo-Joo Park.

With his undeniable talent and growing influence as a designer, Casey Cadwallader is set to make a strong impression at the upcoming couture season in Paris. The return of Mugler to the catwalks adds yet another major brand to the international lineup of talent showcasing their creative visions during this prestigious fashion event.
