Monday Mornings Emerges as Peak Time for Online Shopping

In a recent report by ParcelHero, it has been revealed that Monday mornings have become the peak time for online shopping. The data collected from Asos shows that online sales experience a surge of 15-20% above average between 10-12am on Mondays, surpassing the previous peak on Thursdays. This shift can be attributed to the increasing number of e-commerce sellers booking pickups for new sales.

David Jink, ParcelHero’s Head of Consumer Research, points out that the pandemic has played a significant role in this change. With more businesses relying on e-commerce sales and remote working practices, the convenience of online shopping has become a popular choice. As the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported, the percentage of workers with access to a computer at work has increased to 67.1%. This figure grew rapidly during the pandemic as businesses adapted to the new normal of remote work and online sales.

Interestingly, the ONS also found that microbusinesses with less than 10 employees have the highest proportion of staff with computer access at 74.7%. In contrast, larger companies employing over 1,000 people stand at 63.1%. This data indicates the prevalence of computer access in the workplace and further supports the shift towards remote work and online shopping.

The report also highlights the increasing trend of working from home post-pandemic. Approximately 38% of employees now work remotely for one or more days a week, with Monday being the most popular day for remote work. This suggests that many individuals who shop on Monday mornings may be doing so during working hours but from the comfort of their homes.

In addition to this, ParcelHero has observed a growing number of retired individuals shopping online. According to charity Age UK, 58% of over-75s regularly use a computer for their online purchases. This indicates the growing digital literacy among older age groups and their increasing reliance on e-commerce.

Overall, this report provides valuable insights into the changing landscape of consumer behavior. The pandemic has significantly impacted online shopping habits, with Monday mornings emerging as the prime time for e-commerce. The convenience of working from home and the greater accessibility to technology across various demographics have contributed to this shift.
