Moncler Acquires Stone Island

Moncler, a prestigious luxury fashion brand, has recently taken a bold step by acquiring Stone Island, a reputable specialist in outerwear. This strategic move signals Moncler’s commitment to expanding its presence and solidifying its position in the competitive market. The acquisition of Stone Island’s parent company at a value of €1.15 billion marks a significant milestone for both entities, setting the stage for a promising future.

In the initial phase of the acquisition, Moncler will acquire a majority stake (50%+) from Stone Island CEO Carlo Rivetti, along with an additional 19.9% from other family members, all in a cash transaction. Subsequently, Moncler plans to complete the acquisition by purchasing the remaining shares, including those held by the Temasek fund, which holds approximately 30% ownership. The synergy between Temasek’s investment in both Moncler and Stone Island underscores the strategic nature of this acquisition for all parties involved.

Remo Ruffini, Moncler’s chairman and CEO, is optimistic about the partnership, highlighting the necessity for fresh perspectives and inspiration in the current climate of uncertainty. Ruffini envisions a harmonious blend of creativity and technical expertise through the collaboration of Moncler and Stone Island, creating a new luxury narrative that resonates with evolving consumer preferences. This joint vision sets the stage for success in the global luxury market.

With a strong commitment to sustainability and growth, Moncler plans to leverage its industry expertise to support Stone Island’s expansion in key markets such as the Americas and Asia, as well as through direct-to-consumer channels. Stone Island’s reputation for innovative research and distinct brand identity positions it as a beneficiary of Moncler’s resources and market knowledge, accelerating its growth trajectory.

Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, both Moncler and Stone Island are confident in their future outlook. Stone Island’s strategic store openings in Beijing and Miami, along with its strong foothold in the UK market, reflect the brand’s dedication to expansion and advancement. Backed by a history of profitability and a strong sustainability focus, Moncler is poised to guide Stone Island towards continued success in the ever-evolving landscape of luxury fashion.
