Milan Women’s Fashion Week Returns to Physical Format

Milan Women’s Fashion Week is making a comeback to its traditional physical format after being impacted by pandemic-related restrictions for the past two years. The Italian Chamber of Fashion (CNMI) has announced that the highly anticipated event will feature a total of 71 shows, with only six of them being presented digitally. Taking place from February 22 to 28, the week-long event will exclusively showcase women’s ready-to-wear collections for the Fall/Winter 2022-23 season.

Some of the biggest names in the Italian fashion industry, including Armani, Cavalli, Prada, Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana, and Missoni, will be presenting their latest collections during Milan Women’s Fashion Week. Notably, Bottega Veneta will be making a comeback at the event, alongside Gucci, Trussardi, Plein Sport, and Dsquared2, which will showcase their men’s and women’s collections separately. This year also marks the debut of two exciting newcomers; Diesel, under the creative direction of Glenn Martens, and Ferrari, guided by designer Rocco Iannone.

In addition to established brands, the event will shine a spotlight on emerging talent in the industry. Ambush, a Japanese fashion label founded by American-Korean designer Yoon Ahn and Verbal, will be presenting its collection in Milan instead of Paris this season. Another highlight is the entry of Francesco Ragazzi’s high-end streetwear brand, Palm Angels, which will be making its debut at the women’s edition of Milan Fashion Week after previously showcasing during the men’s week.

This year, Milan Women’s Fashion Week will also witness the physical presence of several brands that have not previously participated in the event. AC9, Andreadamo, Aniye Records, Cormio, Hans Kjøbenhavn, Onitsuka Tiger, and Tokyo James are among the new additions. The CNMI has made it clear that all fashion shows, presentations, and events must adhere to health protocols, including the mandatory presentation of a health pass and the use of FFP2 masks by all attendees.

The Italian fashion industry is particularly pleased with a recent government measure that allows buyers from countries whose vaccines are not recognized by the European Medicines Agency to participate in Milan fashion shows. This means that Russian attendees who have been vaccinated with Sputnik, for example, can now attend events in Europe without any limitations.

The return of Milan Women’s Fashion Week to a physical format is a significant milestone for the fashion industry, as it allows brands to once again showcase their collections in the presence of a live audience. The event is expected to be a grand celebration of creativity and style, bringing together both established names and promising new talent.
