Milan Fashion Week: Bursting with Energy and Creativity

Milan Fashion Week burst onto the scene with a burst of energy and creativity on Friday. The runway was set ablaze with the unique styles of DSquared2, Kiton, and Miu Miu Select, each brand bringing their own distinct flair to the forefront of the fashion world.

DSquared2, a brand known for its edgy and rebellious aesthetic, certainly did not disappoint with their Fall/Winter 2024 collection. The Canadian designer twins, Dean and Dan Caten, took a daring and bold approach, showcasing destroyed and distressed garments that pushed the boundaries of fashion. Models strutted down the runway in muddied tops, mud-splattered jeans, and destroyed sweatshirts, creating a captivating contrast between luxury and grunge. Faux-pony collars and fake fox trim added an unexpected touch of opulence to the collection. The eveningwear was equally bold, with sequin tuxedos for men and saucy black lingerie looks and cut-out gowns for women stealing the show. As the final bow was taken, the Catens were met with a resounding ovation, accompanied by the iconic soundtrack of George Michael’s ‘Freedom! ‘90’.

In stark contrast to DSquared2’s wild designs, Kiton showcased their unparalleled expertise in tailoring. The Italian brand’s artisans worked tirelessly at Milan’s esteemed design academy, the Triennale, meticulously creating the renowned soft-shoulder jackets that Kiton has become renowned for. Their attention to detail and dedication to expert craftsmanship were evident throughout the collection, solidifying their position as one of the finest tailoring brands in the industry. At the ‘Tailoring School A Journey Into Education’ installation, Kiton’s commitment to preserving the art of tailoring was beautifully highlighted, emphasizing the enduring relevance of traditional Italian craftsmanship in an age dominated by automation and artificial intelligence.

Miu Miu Select, a unique concept where influential women curate their own collections, was curated this season by rising star Cailee Spaeny. Spaeny, known for her breakout role in Sofia Coppola’s biopic ‘Priscilla’, brought a touch of her Tennessee roots to the event, infusing her personal style and comfort into the collection. Denim dungarees took center stage, reflecting Spaeny’s laid-back yet stylish aesthetic. The collection comprised of brown chambray work jackets with corduroy trim, faded denim pants, and micro shorts, creating a casually chic vibe. Black strass and jet details added a touch of glamour to the otherwise relaxed denim pieces. Held at Miu Miu’s boutique on via Sant’Andrea, the event exuded an exclusivity and intimacy that gave attendees a true insider experience.

The opening day of Milan Fashion Week epitomized the diversity and creativity within the fashion industry. From DSquared2’s grunge-inspired looks to Kiton’s masterful tailoring and Miu Miu Select’s curated collection by Cailee Spaeny, fashion enthusiasts were treated to a spectacle of styles and designs. As the week progresses, anticipation builds for more exciting showcases from some of the biggest names in the fashion world. Milan continues to exceed expectations, delivering a fashion extravaganza that never fails to captivate the world.
