Milan Design Week Highlights the Luxury Brands Hermès and Louis Vuitton

Milan Design Week showcased the interior design collections of luxury brands Hermès and Louis Vuitton, highlighting their dedication to impeccable craftsmanship and the use of exquisite materials.

Louis Vuitton wowed audiences with their installation on Corso Venezia. The luxury house unveiled sixty pieces of furniture, including their “Objets Nomades” collection, a collaboration with top designers. Eleven new designs were showcased from Atelier oï, Raw Edges, Atelier Biagetti, Marcel Wanders, Zanellato/Bortotto, Campana, and the Louis Vuitton studio. The collection, which has grown over the past decade, took center stage with its white color scheme and occasional hints of red. The iconic Louis Vuitton trunk served as a coffee table throughout the rooms, adding to the luxurious ambiance.

In addition to the furniture collection, Louis Vuitton presented a special project called “Cabinet of Curiosities” that focused on the iconic travel trunk. Designed by Marc Newson, the trunk was transformed into a display case for precious objects, books, works of art, and travel souvenirs. With only 40 editions produced, this remarkable trunk resembled a personal gallery and library. Louis Vuitton also showcased a new nomadic architecture, designed by Marc Fornes, featuring a light and organic metal structure made from over 1,600 sheets of anodized aluminum.

Hermès, a consistent presence at the design fair since 2011, introduced a new setup at La Pelota this year. Their collection was displayed through a massive metal grid made from steel reinforcement mesh. This allowed visitors to view the entire collection from different angles.

Hermès unveiled several new items for the 2023 edition, including the Contour sofa, which features flamed wool and cotton fabric with leather piping, adorned with the brand’s famous full leather buttons designed by Maison Margiela. Collaborating with esteemed designers such as Jasper Morrison, Hermès also presented a reinterpreted version of the Conservatory chair. The collection included blown glass lamps by Finnish designer Harri Koskinen and a sleek armchair by Danish designer Cecilie Manz.

Hermès also expanded its crockery set with a collection of porcelain breakfast pieces adorned with hand-drawn illustrations by French designer Jochen Gerner. Named “Saut d’Hermès,” the set features cheerful and colorful drawings inspired by the equestrian world.

Both Hermès and Louis Vuitton showcased their commitment to exceptional and luxurious designs at the Milan Design Fair. Their presence solidified their positions as leading influencers in the world of contemporary luxury design.
