Métiers d’Excellence Tour: Connecting Future Talents with Luxury Professionals

One month of traveling through five cities in France, showcasing around thirty know-how, and opening 1,200 job positions… After the “You and ME” tour in 2022, Alexandre Boquel, director of development for LVMH’s Métiers d’Excellence, provides an initial assessment of this initiative aimed at future talents in the luxury industry.

So, what can we take away from this new Métiers d’Excellence tour?

According to Boquel, the assessment so far is extremely positive. The You and ME tour succeeded in creating the crucial connections between future talents and professionals in various luxury professions. With a high demand for contracts, the tour attracted a larger and more diverse audience than ever before. This mobilization of talent is particularly significant considering the 20,000 job vacancies that were left unfilled in the arts and luxury manufacturing sectors in France last year. It is clear that when people are informed about these professions and the opportunities they offer, they are inspired to pursue careers in the luxury industry. Boquel confidently states that the French luxury industry is the oldest sector of the future.

During this season, the digital platform received over 60,000 visitors, and more than 2,500 individuals attended events held in various cities in France. The enthusiasm for Métiers d’Excellence was evident in the high volume of applications received on the day of the events, as well as the continuous influx of resumes. In just one day in Valence, where leather goods manufacturing is prominent, the Louis Vuitton workshops received ten times more applications than usual.

The call for a diverse range of profiles is being answered, with candidates of various ages and backgrounds showing interest in these meaningful professions. From young middle school students to career changers, applicants range from 16 to 62 years old and hail from all regions of France. This diversity showcases the passion and dedication people have for these specialized careers.

As part of the tour, 1,200 positions in internships, apprenticeships, fixed-term contracts, and permanent contracts were made available. While the recruitment process is still ongoing, initial results are promising with a high number of applications and quality profiles. In fact, some candidates were even pre-selected on the spot, a first for Métiers d’Excellence since its establishment in 2014. Notably, 50% of the applications come from career changers, which is a record rate. There are still many positions available, particularly in sales and leather goods, and these areas will be a focus in the upcoming weeks.

So, which professions are in demand?

LVMH is actively seeking individuals for over 30 professions, with a high demand for roles in leather goods, sales, hospitality, and catering. The company also prioritizes securing the future of professions with limited talent availability, such as bootmakers, watchmakers, and polishers. It is important to note that it takes seven years to become a qualified jeweler, highlighting the commitment and time required for training in these specialized fields. However, LVMH values the experiences and encounters gained throughout this journey and takes great pride in showcasing the achievements of their virtuosos.

Considering sustainability issues and technological advancements in production, are we seeing the emergence of new skills and professions in luxury Houses, ultimately transforming HR needs?

All professions within LVMH incorporate innovation and digital technology. Contrary to common misconceptions, these professions go beyond traditional practices and are enriched by innovation. To support the development of employee skills, connect them with the latest technological advancements, and address environmental challenges, LVMH has established the Académie des Métiers d’Excellence. Craftsmanship remains an integral part of the industry, and LVMH ensures that their artisans embody the know-how of tomorrow.

The recruitment operation for Métiers d’Excellence will continue on the You and ME digital platform until June.
