Me+Em Secures £55 Million Funding Boost for Global Expansion

Me+Em, the high-end UK fashion brand, has recently secured a funding boost of £55 million in a funding round led by Highland Europe. This investment will enable the brand to expand globally, with a specific focus on the US market. Founded by Clare Hornby, a former advertising executive turned fashion entrepreneur, Me+Em offers contemporary luxury clothing with a strong emphasis on sustainability and ethics. The brand has seen impressive triple-digit revenue growth in the past year.

Highland Europe, known for its support of luxury e-tailer Matchesfashion, is joined by existing investors including Charles Dunstone, the tycoon behind Carphone Warehouse, and investment firm Venrex in backing Me+Em. As a result of this funding, the company, which has been in operation for 15 years, is now valued at £130 million. It’s worth mentioning that Hornby originally mortgaged her house to start the business. However, her extensive experience in the fashion industry, including running a secondhand clothing stall during her teenage years and working as a marketing trainee at Harrods, has contributed to the success of the brand.

Me+Em currently operates six stores and primarily generates sales online. The brand plans to open two new stores in the US, specifically in Boston and New York, next year. The US market has been the fastest-growing region for Me+Em, with sales increasing fourfold over the past three years. Additionally, the brand has ambitions to expand its presence in Australia, the Middle East, Canada, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and mainland Europe.

Sam Brooks, a partner at Highland Europe, praised Me+Em for its commitment to quality, fit, and sustainability, which has led to a loyal customer base and significant growth. Brooks acknowledged that the brand’s appeal extends beyond the UK market, with strong demand from international customers. Highland Europe is thrilled to partner with Hornby and the Me+Em team, recognizing Hornby’s leadership abilities and the brand’s global relevance.

Despite receiving substantial investments from external parties, Hornby and her husband still hold a significant stake in the company. This latest funding injection positions Me+Em to pursue its global growth aspirations and solidify its position as a leading luxury fashion brand with a conscious approach to sustainability.
