McArthurGlen’s Designer Outlet West Midlands Opens its Doors

McArthurGlen’s highly anticipated Designer Outlet West Midlands has finally opened its doors, marking the company’s first UK opening in over two decades. The £160 million development, which is set to be the only standalone shopping center to open in the UK this year, is a significant addition to the retail industry as shops in England reopen after the third national lockdown.

The Designer Outlet West Midlands is the seventh outlet from McArthurGlen in the UK, joining the ranks of popular locations such as Ashford, Bridgend, Cheshire Oaks, East Midlands, Swindon, and York. With 285,000 square feet of retail space spread across two phases, the outlet offers a wide variety of shopping options. It is expected to create around 1,000 new retail jobs, making a positive economic impact in the region.

Situated just 30 minutes from Birmingham, the outlet features up to 80 brands in its first phase, offering discounts of up to 60% off. Shoppers can look forward to finding well-known names such as Coach, Kate Spade, Hugo Boss, Levi’s, Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, Calvin Klein, Ted Baker, Reiss, Kurt Geiger, Gant, Radley, and Joules. Additionally, the outlet highlights sportswear and athleisure, with popular brands like Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Asics, and Skechers available for shoppers.

The Designer Outlet West Midlands also boasts a diverse dining scene, although restaurants and bars are currently limited to outdoor dining until May 17. Visitors can enjoy a range of dining options while taking a break from their shopping spree. Furthermore, the outlet offers various attractions to enhance the shopping experience. These include a unique children’s adventure playground, luxury guest amenities, a dancing fountain, a bespoke sculpture, and a well-equipped Changing Places facility.

In line with increasing environmental consciousness, the outlet prioritizes sustainability. It has planted approximately 400 trees, utilizes solar panels, houses on-site beehives and a wormery, provides electric car charging points, bicycle parking, and even features a nature reserve. Furthermore, McArthurGlen has contributed £15 million towards a highway improvements program to improve the nearby road network, ensuring easy access to the outlet.

The opening of the Designer Outlet West Midlands is not only a milestone for McArthurGlen but also for UK retail as a whole. With its diverse range of brands, attractive discounts, and exciting attractions, the outlet aims to provide customers with extraordinary day-out shopping experiences that can only be found in physical retail. As the industry adapts to changing consumer expectations, outlets like this continue to offer unique opportunities for both retailers and shoppers alike.
