Marta Ortega Organizes First-ever International Exhibition Dedicated to Steven Meisel

Marta Ortega, the daughter of renowned fashion tycoon Amancio Ortega and the newly appointed president of Inditex, continues to make waves in the fashion world. Her latest endeavor involves organizing the first-ever international exhibition dedicated solely to the works of esteemed American fashion photographer Steven Meisel. Titled “Meisel 93. A year in photographs,” this exhibition serves as a tribute to Meisel’s illustrious career, showcasing his iconic images that have transcended the realms of fashion and beauty.

The exhibition kicked off with a star-studded event, graced by the presence of international celebrities and key figures in the fashion industry. Among the attendees were supermodels Natalia Vodianova, Amber Valletta, Irina Shayk, Karlie Kloss, and Eugenia Silva, as well as esteemed fashion designers Anna Sui and John Galliano. The exclusive inauguration featured a dinner catered by the prestigious two-star Michelin restaurant Culler de Pau, and a captivating live performance by singer Lous and the Yakuza.

Meisel, known for launching the careers of several renowned supermodels during the 1990s, has long been celebrated for his contribution to the fashion industry. His photographs have graced the pages of esteemed fashion magazines and have become iconic representations of the artistry of fashion and beauty. Recognizing the significance of his work, Marta Ortega was determined to bring this exceptional exhibition to A Coruña, the hometown of Inditex.

Curated by Meisel’s studio, the exhibition features a stunning collection of over 100 portraits, primarily taken in the pivotal year of 1993 – a period that marked a turning point in the photographer’s career. The exhibition provides a unique opportunity to delve into Meisel’s distinct style and his remarkable ability to capture the essence of fashion and beauty. Marta Ortega firmly believes that the exhibition will not only enhance the cultural experiences available in Galicia but also serve as a source of inspiration for those fortunate enough to witness Meisel’s extraordinary images firsthand.

This is not the first time Marta Ortega has taken the initiative to organize a photographic exhibition. In 2018, she curated a highly successful retrospective exhibition featuring the works of renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh. These efforts demonstrate Ortega’s dedication to showcasing the artistry and influence of fashion photography, aligning with her vision to position Zara as a more upscale brand in the fashion industry.

Located at the Muelle de la Batería space in A Coruña, the exhibition will be open to the public from November 19th until May 1st of the following year. This presents a remarkable opportunity for fashion enthusiasts and art lovers alike to immerse themselves in the world of Steven Meisel and appreciate his significant contributions to the industry. With the vision and passion displayed by Marta Ortega, A Coruña has yet again solidified its status as a prominent fashion capital.
