Marimekko Launches Marimekko Pre-loved Marketplace

Marimekko, the Finnish lifestyle design company, is set to launch a marketplace specifically for vintage and second-hand Marimekko goods called Marimekko Pre-loved. The marketplace will go live on August 25 and will feature a special selection of vintage dresses from Marimekko’s archive.

Marimekko Pre-loved aims to create a community-driven platform where individuals and independent vendors can sell their pre-owned Marimekko items. By providing a concise marketplace for second-hand goods, Marimekko hopes to promote sustainability and extend the lifespan of its products.

The idea for Marimekko Pre-loved originated from a pilot concept introduced in August 2021, where Marimekko sold 60 unique vintage pieces online. Building on the success of this pilot, the company has decided to expand the concept into a fully functioning marketplace.

Initially, Marimekko Pre-loved will only be available in Finland, the brand’s home market. However, there are plans to extend the service to other markets in the future, offering a wider reach to customers worldwide.

Marimekko has always prioritized sustainability in its design philosophy and operations. The company aims to provide customers with timeless, functional, and durable products. With the introduction of Marimekko Pre-loved, the brand is taking a concrete step towards fulfilling this commitment. By offering pre-owned treasures, Marimekko hopes to provide a conscious and convenient alternative for customers to incorporate colors and prints into their everyday lives.

Suvi-Elina Enqvist, the head of innovation works at Marimekko, emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainable practices. Enqvist stated that Marimekko wants to offer long-lasting joy to customers and provide a new conscious and convenient alternative through Marimekko Pre-loved.

With its new marketplace for second-hand goods, Marimekko is making strides towards creating a more sustainable fashion industry. By promoting the reuse of its iconic designs, the brand encourages customers to embrace a circular economy and make more conscious shopping choices. As Marimekko Pre-loved expands to other markets, it has the potential to become a global platform for vintage and second-hand Marimekko goods, further solidifying the brand’s commitment to sustainability and timeless design.
