Maison Margiela Unveils New Headquarters in Paris

Maison Margiela, the esteemed fashion house, recently unveiled its new headquarters in Paris to much excitement. The legendary designer, John Galliano, marked this occasion by presenting his latest collection, an exquisitely deconstructed tribute to the late Queen of Punk, Jordan. Previously located in an old school building in the vibrant 11th arrondissement, Maison Margiela now resides in a magnificent Haussmann building on the prestigious Place des États Unis in the affluent 16th arrondissement. The former Pernod Ricard headquarters exudes grandeur and elegance, situated just across the square from Baccarat, France’s most sophisticated glassmaker. Adding to the allure of the location, a magnificent bronze equestrian statue of George Washington can be found nearby.

This move has significantly expanded Maison Margiela’s headquarters, now occupying an impressive 7,000 square meters, providing ample space for its 220 staff members. With an investment of approximately €20 million, the brand is confident that this expansion will fuel future growth. Staying true to the enigmatic spirit of founder Martin Margiela, John Galliano chose not to make a customary appearance for a bow at the event. Nevertheless, his women’s ready-to-wear collection showcased his undeniable talent and deserved recognition. Presented as the final event in the Paris menswear season, Galliano’s collection paid homage to Jordan Mooney, crowned the Queen of Punk. The influence of Jordan was evident in the edgy hairstyles, bold facial designs, fishnet stockings, unconventional hat choices, and unique dress styling. However, Galliano skillfully incorporated these inspirations into a fresh narrative, presenting stunning inside-out trench coats, oversized A-line coats in bold plaids, dramatic bustiers, and tulle cocktail dresses. Maison Margiela also collaborated with renowned American brand Pendleton to create exceptional macs and winter coats, some of which prominently displayed the Pendleton label.

Prior to the show, Renzo Rosso, the Italian fashion tycoon and owner of Maison Margiela, expressed his enthusiasm for the move. Despite the brand’s sentimental attachment to their former location, they were unable to acquire the building and faced limited options for larger structures in that area. However, Rosso remained optimistic and commended the new headquarters, raising a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne to toast the occasion. To commemorate the relocation, Maison Margiela transformed their basement atelier into a captivating art installation, featuring movie seats, video projections, mannequins dressed in the latest collection, and a striking presentation of a weathered American convertible suspended dramatically on one wall.

Under the leadership of CEO Gianfranco Gianangeli, Maison Margiela has experienced tremendous success. The brand has focused on expanding its retail network, elevating its existing stores, and positioning itself at a higher price point. Gianangeli proudly announced that sales have tripled in the past three years, a testament to their exceptional growth. This achievement was celebrated during the grand opening of the new headquarters, where guests enjoyed post-show cocktails on the rooftop garden, offering breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower. Although John Galliano was unable to join in the celebration, Maison Margiela’s new headquarters and the outstanding collection presented at the event exemplify the brand’s continuous growth and remarkable contribution to the fashion industry.
