Mahabis: A High-End Slipper Brand Rescued by Entrepreneur James Cox

Millennial-focused high-end slipper brand Mahabis has been successfully rescued from the brink of failure thanks to the acquisition by James Cox, an experienced entrepreneur in the mattress industry. The recent move comes just in time to save the brand from administration, ensuring job security for the brand’s 16 employees.

Since its founding in 2014, Mahabis has been a disruptor in the slipper market with its unique concept of woollen slippers featuring detachable rubber soles for outdoor use. The brand quickly gained popularity, selling nearly one million pairs in just four years. With Cox at the helm, Mahabis is poised for significant growth, with plans to transform the brand into a £100 million business within the next five years. Cox’s strategy includes expanding distribution channels through retail partnerships and launching exclusive co-branded products with Simba Sleep.

Despite facing challenges that led to the need for acquisition, Mahabis received an overwhelming response with over 70 offers on the table. Cox and YYX Capital stood out as the preferred choice due to their strategic vision and commitment to preserving Mahabis’ distinct identity. While founder Ankur Shah will no longer be actively involved in the brand, he remains optimistic about its future under Cox’s leadership. Shah is pleased with the outcome of the acquisition, noting the positive impact it will have on employees and suppliers.

As Mahabis transitions to a new era under Cox’s leadership, the brand is poised for continued growth and innovation. With a proven track record of success in the consumer goods industry, Cox is well-positioned to steer Mahabis towards a prosperous future.
