Lyst’s Year in Fashion Report 2022

Lyst, the luxury fashion portal, has recently released its comprehensive Year in Fashion report for 2022, providing insights into some of the top brands and trends that dominated the fashion industry during the year. The report reveals that Miu Miu has received the prestigious title of “brand of the year,” as searches for the label surged by an impressive 49% in comparison to the previous year. This recognition not only underscores the brand’s influence and popularity but also reflects the remarkable turnaround witnessed by its parent company, Prada, in recent times.

Another notable accolade goes to Diesel, which has been named the recipient of the “logo of the year” award, owing to the immense impact of its prominent 1DR logo. This distinctive logo helped Diesel make its debut in the esteemed Lyst Index, securing the 15th position. The 1DR bag, featuring the logo, also soared to prominence, becoming the most sought-after accessory with a remarkable 248% surge in searches.

While renowned high-end brands like Miu Miu and Diesel received well-deserved recognition, it is worth mentioning that Birkenstock’s Boston clogs were crowned as the “shoe of the year.” Searches for these fashion-forward clogs skyrocketed by a staggering 593% in the first half of the year, with Lyst highlighting that “the clog has emerged as the defining shoe of the post-pandemic fashion era.”

Prada continued its winning streak with the inclusion of its Re-nylon Re-edition 2000 mini bag as the “bag of the year.” The bag experienced a substantial 131% surge in searches during the summer and gained immense popularity on the popular social media platform, TikTok. The hashtag #pradanylonbag generated over 4.2 million views, further solidifying its coveted status.

Several other brands made a significant impact in 2022. Lacoste dominated the digital fashion landscape with its collaboration with Minecraft, leading to an astounding 1,011% surge in demand for the collection. The collaboration that stole the show was between Jacquemus and Nike, attracting over 50,000 searches within a 24-hour period after the announcement.

Coperni, renowned for its viral spray paint dress on TikTok, was recognized as the brand with the “viral moment of the year.” The brand witnessed an unprecedented 3,000% increase in searches in the days following its showcase, firmly establishing itself as the most searched brand from fashion month.

Marc Jacobs made a remarkable impact with its ‘Weird Girl’ TikTok aesthetic, presenting a fresh take on maximalism and capitalizing on 90s nostalgia. J.W. Anderson also left a lasting impression with its 3D Printed Pigeon, earning the title of “weird and wonderful moment of the year” and becoming the brand’s most widely viewed product on Lyst.

Despite facing various challenges, Balenciaga stole the limelight with its Haute Couture show, earning the prestigious title of “Fashion Show of the Year.” This accomplishment resulted in a tremendous 525% increase in online searches for the brand. Lyst also highlighted rising stars Luar, Amesh, and Mônot as the ones to watch in 2023, with growing interest in their brands and products.

Moreover, 2022 witnessed a powerful resurgence of celebrity and influencer impact on fashion trends following the pandemic. The standout trend of the year was Barbiecore, leading to a significant surge in searches for all things pink after Margot Robbie was spotted wearing pink attire. Bella Hadid was hailed as the top power dresser, driving searches for corsets, cargo pants, and even causing the ultra-mini platform Ugg boots to sell out.

Sydney Sweeney emerged as the rising star of the year, captivating fashion enthusiasts and brands alike with her impeccable style choices. Additionally, Kim Kardashian’s unforgettable red carpet moment at The Met Gala, where she donned a Marilyn Monroe-inspired Bob Mackie dress, resulted in a remarkable 456% increase in searches for the designer. Lastly, Elizabeth Debicki’s portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown propelled her to fashion icon status among a new generation, with the TikTok trend #revengedress amassing over 101.7 million views.

All in all, 2022 exemplified a year marked by a diverse array of brands, unexpected moments, and the resurfacing influence of celebrities and influencers on fashion trends.
